The year was 1987. Hair-sprayed, high-octane, hook-drenched Hard Rock ruled the radio. It was also the year
Shake City was born. This is a retrospective CD looking back to the good old days.
Shake City ruled in the period 1987-1992 and now 17 years later the band's music is public for all fans of that era.
Why
Shake City never got a breakthrough is a mystery. They sure had the songs and also the connections tightly affiliated with
Warrant plus Tommy Thayer from Black N' Blue. Tommy Thayer co-wrote
One Good Reason and
Hot Love along with
Shake City singer Adam Shore. Both songs are uplifting Hard Rockers.
Betty Blue is a "fist in air rocker" where guitarist Don E. Sachs gets to shred and prove his skills.
Sweet Dreams is a sweet mellow song - not unlike what is found on the first two
Warrant albums.
Get It While It's Hot is a bluesy song and the great ballad
Little Lianne for sure brought out the lighters in a live setting.
This is no musical revolution. It's all heard before, but this is good solid Hard Rock with great hooks. You cannot avoid tipping your toe to the bouncy rocker:
Lust & Love. Great guitars from Don E. Sachs
Psychedelic Ride and
Can't Get over You are both co-written by
Warrant's Eric Turner. However, none are special. That cannot be said regarding
Game of War, which Jani Lane wrote for
Shake City. It is the best song on this collection - it may be a Jani Lane outcast, but it's a fantastic song of highest quality. Adam Shore's voice fits the song perfectly and
Game of War is the finest example of the
Warrant/
Shake City crossover.
The artwork and packaging is sublime. The songs have been recorded at great studios and therefore the sound quality is great. The song writing focuses on hooks and in general Eonain Records has outdone them selves by serving this gem to Hard Rock fans. At first I thought
Shake City was a total standard release but after a few spins the songs really grew on me.
Recommended to all fans of Hair Metal and in particular
Warrant fans!
