Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Elton Nestler: Bass/Programming
Kevin Leaman: Guitar

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever  consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

EN: We are our own category.
KL: Which allows us to play other styles of music.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

EN: The name of the latest album is Gabriel. All of humanity should
buy it because we plan to develop a ray gun to destroy near impact
astroids and save the earth from total destruction with the proceeds.
KL: WOW is that what that is, i didnt know.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the  band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you  where you are today?

EN: The band was formed in the mid eighties by Kurt Bachman and Joey  Daub. After three releases, the band went into a fifteen year hiatus,  reforming in 2007 with the addition of Kevin Leaman, Jeff King and myself.
KL: I met Joey at the bank in like 91-92, Kurt and Jeff through Joey, that was pretty crucial! Elton i met at a deli.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

EN: No.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the  band?

EN: During mixing, Kurt Bachman, Jeff King, and myself ordered some  delightful subs. I had a cheeseburger sub. It was good. Memories...
KL: I remember that, I wish I got one. I had a skillet meal instead...

How is the writing process in the band?

EN: Kurt Bachman and Joey Daub formulate the songs structure and then  we fix it. Every member has creative input in the process.
KL: Yeah lots of fixing!

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever  consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

EN: Depression and self loathing.
KL: I thought if Joey can do this I can too.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

EN: No.
KL: No.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any  songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you  regret it?

EN: No. However, I wish I still had that sub.
KL: I regret not getting a sub.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but  you're not particular fond of yourself?

EN: Not yet.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
EN: Its up to the fans to decide what the lyrics mean to them.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

EN: I'm glad to see that there aren't as many "cookie cutter" bands  as there have been over the past ten years. However, when things like  American Idol are still so popular, it concerns me for the state of  the country and their ever narrowing musical taste.
KL: I am tired of the cut and paste recordings. Everything sounds too perfect, Although I think that is changing. And I miss the old fashon blast beat too!

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

EN: With the state of technology I don't believe it will ever be  possible to avoid music piracy other than to not release material to  the public.
KL: We could try to use that ray gun to stop it.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

EN: I do. Don't die.
KL; Are you going to eat that?

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

EN: I wake up. Then there is whining, annoyance, noise, complaining,  bitching, moaning, at some point eating, and then there is sleep.
KL:Wake up, work, mow grass, walk the dog, play guitar, sleep.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

 EN: Fishing and see above.
KL: Mowing grass, pruning my roses, and the occasional downhill madness.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

EN: I once ate a really big burrito and got a tummy ache.
KL: There is a great burrito place across the street from The Chameleon, MMM I love a good burrito.  Not a tour but my old band opened for Jucifer, that was crazy!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years  with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books  would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

EN: Albums; Sixteen Horsepower 'Secret South'and Oingo Boingo  'Farewell'.
Movies; Strange Brew, Bad Taste, and Evil Dead.
Books; Keith Jones 'Knowing Bass', Mike Iaconelli 'Fishing on the  Edge', and Monte Burke "Sowbelly'.
I have a follow-up question...How do I have electricity on a deserted  island?
(Note from the Editor: The magnificent portable entertainment system is sun powered)

KL: Music; Cynic 'Focus', Brutal Truth 'Need to Control and Carcass 'Heartwork'
Books; Roses for Dummies, The Shack, and Blue Like Jazz.
No Movies I would rather watch the ocean.

What is your favourite joke?

KL: I can never remember jokes.

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

EN: As stated prior, saving the earth from total destruction. You're  welcome in advance.
KL: I plan on mowing my grass. As far as the band I'll probably get kicked out.
