The Last Vegas - Whatever Gets You Off
Latest signing from Eleven Seven Music is The Last Vegas. Every time a new band pops up on the label I get very interested because label president is Nikki Sixx.

The Last Vegas hails from Chicago. Even though this is their debut they independently sold more than 10.00 records and toured in 17 countries before this release - very impressive for such a young band!

The Last Vegas plays Rock with touch of sleaze and lots of swagger. The energy level is high, but they don't go punk. They hired producer Marti Frederiksen to polish all the rough edges. The album opener Whatever Gets You Off sets the record straight about what this band is about.

The snotty I'm Bad has a great drive. I'm Bad is co-written with DJ Ashba and Nikki Sixx plus Marti Frederiksen. It's a great tune, which brings memories back to the glory 80´s era with especially Faster Pussycat and Motley Crue in mind. Maybe Sixx can reflect himself in the band?

Singer Chad Cherry has a good rasp - some part guttersnipe twisted with a rasp that only few get when their voice has aged a bit.

The album is produced by Marti Frederiksen and he certainly removed the original garage sound of the band - just listen to the commercial Loose Lips. Overall the album production is a bit too nice with most rough edges gone - another example is Cherry Red, which is a bit too polished and commercialized. The production suits the big ballad Apologize - a big ballad with strings that builds up for climax.

Pass the torch because these guys could well be the contenders of the nü-sleaze throne. However I miss some of the rawness that were on Motley's debut album for instance. On the other hand, since The Last Vegas have polished up they become much more accessible and maybe The Last Vegas could bring back Arena rock? The Last Vegas got it all; great tunes, skilled musicians, a lead singer with a good rasp, the right people backing them and commercial flair.

The Last Vegas is certainly an exciting band. I am sure most rock fans will find something that get them off on this debut album.
