Formed in 1987
Charlemagne was a product of the Hollywood scene from a time when the Sunset Strip became music mecca. The liner notes says it like this: Hollywood in the late 80's/early 90's was an awesome AWESOME place to be.
Charlemagne played all the famous venues like The Whiskey, The Troubadour, The Roxy Theater, Coconut Teaszer and Gazzarri's.
The sound on this release is superb. Everything seems very professional concerning
Charlemagne; the production is effective and the vocals harmonies are great.
Charlemagne was great songwriters and songs like
Secret Romeo and
She's Only Young sounds like Hollywood club hits.
The vocals from Raymond Barret are full and punchy. His tone is great and the axe work from Scott Oliver is stunning. My personal favorites
So Far Away and the rocking
Chance is Calling have the best of these elements.
The 11 songs are very catchy.
Is it Ever Easy and
I've got You has pop elements and a clean guitar. Basically the band covers all bases of Rock on this release
Charlemagne was just another band lost in the shuffle, which is unfair because these guys had the songs. If they had a record company behind them their run could have been much different. The commercial potential is obvious and I am pleased that everyone that didn't experience the club scene in the golden days can enjoy this on a well-produced compact disc.
