Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

My name is Sebastian and I play the guitar.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

It's just extreme music with lots of influences from grindcore, noise, avantgarde, soundtrack, death metal, ambient. Yes, I do play different music in my other bands/projects.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Our latest album is called "Warning" and has been released this March. People should buy it because it's quite different from any average grind stuff. If you're looking for something experimental, strange and fast, check us out!

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

We've started with the band in 2000. Until now we've released 5 full length albums, many split CDs, 7"-s and other stuff in different formats. Some of our highlights were playing at the Obscene Extreme and Giants Of Grind Festivals, signing with Relapse Records, doing a 3-week tour with Fuck The Facts across Europe this February, and still making music after 9 years of the band's existence.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

We've never thought that way. We've just made a band, started with the shows, made different records and it all's just happened. I'm very proud of where the band is now, since we've started almost a decade ago. I'm happy we made it.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

The deal with Relapse has been one of the most significant moments in our career. And all the recordings we've made and all the gigs we've played till now are our favourite moments as well. We try to enjoy what we are doing so we have a lot of nice things in the band permanently.

How is the writing process in the band?

Krzysztof (the drummer) and I are the most responsible guys for Antigama's music and it's been so since the beginning of the band. It's simply that we just jam together on the rehearsals and then get all the ideas for the songs together, as ususal. It comes pretty naturally.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I started playing music in the end of the 80's, playing drums for a couple of local grindcore bands. Then I started with the guitar in 1991 and I do it till now. I also play keyboards ocassionally. Apart from music, I've had a lot of different jobs like building giant stages, working at an office or doing some small business with selling records.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Bruce Lee, Ace Frehley, Buckethead.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

No, I never look back at my caeer or regret something. Im think about the future not about the past. And I'm happy with it.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Do we have any fans? But yes! It could be "Sorry" or "Psychonaut".

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Of course lyrics are very important for us. Patryk's lyrics are more personal than the ones of our previous singer. Lucas used to write fiction poetry but Patryk is more 'down to earth' and this approach is more important for us as a band.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

To be honest, I try to concentrate more on my own music and don't care much about the business issues. Some of the bands in the music industry are shitty and some are great and creative - I think it's been always like that. The labels usually push a lot of money into crap ha ha.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Since we have internet on the Earth it's not possible to fight this kind of stuff. I see a lot of my music free to download but I can't do a thing about that. Sad but true.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

"Live your own life, enjoy life as much as you can"

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

When I'm at home I usually wake up late, make some breakfast, do some stuff around the flat, go to the rehearsal room, and then back home, see with my girlfriend, watch movies, smoke pot, go to sleep!

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Spending time with my girlfriend, my dog and my closest friends. Watching movies, listening to music, enjoying life at it's fullest.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

When you travel in a van and your ass starts rotting from spending all the time just sitting and sleeping in the same position (a fucking nightmare), anything that happens is crazy. And there's always many crazy moments on on the tour - too many to mention!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Albums:

Goblin - Suspiria
Kiss - Alive II
Napalm Death - From Enslavement To Obliteration

Movies:

Lucio Fulci - City Of The Living Dead
Stanley Kubrick - The Shining
Robert Clouse - Enter The Dragon

Books:

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche - Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Albert Mudrian - Choosing Death
Some more stuff i'm not sure now...

What is your favourite joke?

I've heard a lot of good ones but I'm not so good at remembering them all - sorry!

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We are going to the US in May for a 2-week tour with Complete Failure. We'll play at Maryland Deatfest and Midwest Fuckfest festivals while in the US. After that we're going back to Europe for more gigs around, supporting our latest album "Warning".
