Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Matt Moore/Guitarist.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

Burglar Metal.  We've considered playing Special-Ops Criminal Thrash and Ghost Thrash but don't wish to compromise our burglarizing nature.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Living For Death, Destroying the Rest is today's incarnation of unhallowed fist banging metal.  Every song is a World of Metal.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

We created this band to cut through all the boring, weak music that we see put forth by other bands.  We'd all been to lots of metal shows and played in lots of bands, but really felt that most bands had no energy and did not play anything distinct from thousands of other bullshit musicians.  We decided to go all out and inject metal with a new adrenaline.  The crucial moment for us has been realizing that others are fucking around and we weren't going to.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

No.  The choice has been ours to make. Dig deep to find ways of creating burglar metal is the only option we've had.  For any band the situation is the same.sit at home and you will be a local band.go on the road and you won't.  Friends of mind book 6 week tours for their own bands with no agent or label support.it's all about stabbing life in the neck and dragging it to where you want to go.  As a band we've sat around a little bit too much but the itch to tour has finally got us going out the door.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Our van broke down while on tour.  The repair shop said it would take a few days to fix so we had to cancel a few shows.  It killed me calling the promoters and telling them the situation.  But we made it to Nashville because a friend drove us and ended playing with all borrowed gear and tiny practice amps we had with us..the show turned out awesome and we partied in Nashville for a few days which ended up being a great time.

How is the writing process in the band?

It's a drunk shouting match when we get together, but there's a lot of respect we have for each other's song writing perspective.  Guitar players all know it's very easy to write riffs in the same key and put them together to make a song.but what's the point of doing that?  For something to actually have power as a song there needs to be more than just notes, rhythms, and lyrics.  We try to make sounds that reach deeper than the ears!

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I never had a doubt in my mind that metal was my path in life.  People who have known me forever always comment how it's crazy how I knew what I was gonna do with my life since I was really young.  I think a lot of people want to make music exclusively but don't grasp the demanding nature of this path.  I think a lot of people want to be rock stars or famous, but I just want to create ultimate metal and blast violent noise at people whatever the result.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

I don't know of anyone I'd rather be than myself.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording?  If so, what made you regret it?

There are parts I think could have been recorded better here and there but overall I'm happy with the path things have taken.  Obviously you'd do something a little bit different years later but for each recording's time and place I think it's all what it was meant to be.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Cool thing is EVERYONE has a different favourite song.  No song is overlooked in the writing process.  The actual songs are all good to me.my few solos on the other hand are not that exciting to me.  I'm a riffer not a shredder.  Ryan's the shredder.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

The lyrics are the most direct manifestation of the song.  They often come last in the writing process as the final expression of the songs identity.  They are the icing on the cake to me.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

There's lots more bands, most are halfway decent, fewer than ever are truly amazing.  Black metal went to shit until recently some US bands started getting it right.Thrash revivalism is generic and boring but for a few bands.Municipal Waste is still one of the best live bands..Grind is too refined.Lots of kids are into metal but I don't see enough SATAN.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Don't consider it piracy.  Music is created for people to hear it.  It is rarely the creator that reaps any financial reward anyway.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

I have many life philosophies.  A very poignant one that I live by is "You're gonna fucking die no matter what you do.so might as well do excellent things".  Another one I've been carrying with me is "Fuck it dude, just go for it".

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Everyday is pretty different
Here's a weekday from this week:
Wake up 3 hours late for work, write emails to bands, labels, promoters, etc. at work, get home and crack open a beer while following up on band/label related calls (I have a label called Creeping Vine Productions), go to my other job where I teach guitar, stay late working on riffs, drive to a show somewhere in Philly, come home and wake up my girlfriend.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

When I'm not playing I'm always dealing with emails, phonecalls, meetings, etc., that are music related.  Besides that I like the same stuff as anyone.hanging with my girlfriend or my friends or family.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

I don't know.there's always something bizarre going on.

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Album:
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse

Movie:
Some sort of extreme pornography that would normally be illegal in civilized places

Book:
"How to Build a Guitar on a Desert Island"

What is your favourite joke?

I like jokes that involve water.anytime a place gets accidentally flooded I find it hilarious.  Also anytime someone does something that they know is a bad idea but for the sake of absurdity they go for it.

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

2009 is a touring year for us, but mostly in North America so far but we're working on Europe.after that we'll be continuing our work on a 3rd album.  Some new tracks will pop up in between.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Someday we will all grow our own food and make our own beer!
