Billy Sheehan - Holy Cow
This is Billy Sheehan's third solo album, but my first time experience with his solo stuff after being a fan of both his work with David Lee Roth and Mr. Big.

The opening track blew me away, since it's the most positive surprise of 2009. Despite not being a singer Billy's voice sounds good and Sheehan also plays guitar on the groovy opener In A Week Or Two (I'll Give It Back To You), which displays Sheehan songwriting skills at best. Make it to Another day is another mid-tempo song that suits the voice of Sheehan.

Billy Gibbons spices A Lit'l Bit'l Do It To Ya Ev'ry Time with his trademark ZZ Top leads. The song falls in same place as album opener - great emotional Rock N' Roll.

I expected a full instrumental CD, but Sheehan's music is much alike King's X. Doug Pinnick from King's X provides vocals for Turning Point and the song would fit nicely on any King's X album.

Unfortunately the album looses pace since most songs are mid-tempo rockers. Billy sings great but is very limited in his range. Sheehan is a wizard on his instrument, so naturally the album has 4 instrumentals, where Time From An Imaginary Sci Fi is the most interesting.

Bassists should check this out. The album starts off fantastic, but tends to be like milking cows = the same routine. So far In a Week or Two ranks among the best songs of 2009.
