Marillion - Happiness is the Road
Progressive rock veterans Marillion has not made a big fuzz the last decade. However, they kept releasing albums to satisfy their big hard core fan base - most notified is the album "Marillion.com", which was funded by Marillion's fans. The band's last album "Somewhere Else" dates back to 2007 and I dare to declare that Marillion is back stronger than ever with this determined 2 disc album "Happiness is the Road".

"Happiness is the Road" is certainly not milking the Marillion brand neither does the album display a band living on the past. The band has got something to offer and they lay it on line with this impressive 2 hour album.

Marillion has also evolved their sound and band sounds like a cocktail of old Genesis prog. Rock as main ingredient along stirred with a Radiohead like sound (which is meant in a very positive sense) and spiced with classic Marillion components.

Spanning over 2 discs "Happiness is the Road" is a very ambitious project and it only succeeds because the album isn't prolonged or repeats itself. Marillion has lots of ideas in the bag. The band has always moved on musically and this time they have added a few effects that create lots of emotion to the music. The band cleverly incorporates guitar effects on the solo for album highlight Whatever is Wrong with You.

Marillion has their own studio, which they certainly have been used as an artistic playground. The production is fantastic with a crystal clear sound.

"Happiness is the Road" is Marillion's 15th album and with a playing time of almost 2 hours it is a very demanding album, but certainly also a very rewarding album.
