Band Profile

Q.What is your name and your current position in the band?

A. My name is Lucius Borich and I play drums in the band. I also write the music along with the other guys.

Q. How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

A. Our style of music can come at you from a few different directions . We're mostly some kind of alternative rock band but we've been giving the prog tag at times. The dynamics within the music play a big roll as well. We can easy have a low-fi striped back kind of sound as much as going into very distorted and loud sections within the music. We also use a lot of technology to help create the cog sound although keeping the organic sound of the three of us playing our internments.

Growing up I used to play along to all styles of music from Jazz, blues, reggae, latin whatever. Even now when I come off the road and have some time my farther who plays blues guitar will ring me and ask if I want to do a show and it's always exiting to play the blues again in it's truest form.

Q. What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

A. The title is "Sharing Space" Our album consist of 13 tracks that almost takes up the hole 84 or what ever minuets on a c.d. People should buy it because it's awesome if you ask me. I'm a fan of what we do but maybe asking me is not the right thing to do because I have a biased opinion of cause. Anyway I think people will get a lot out of our music and longevity, I think people will dig the art work to

Q. Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

A. Well we all grew up in Bondi beach Sydney Australia and we all went to school together.
Flynn (guitarist, lead vocals) and Luke Gower (bass guitar) are brothers. I hooked up with them back in 1997-98 and we kick off the band just as an instrumental band. We were trying to look for a singer but couldn't find one so flynn started singing and I'm sure glad he did. One of the highlights I think would have to be releasing our first album  "The New Normal" because it was such a feet to finally get  it recorded and out. The other was headlining a show in front of 15 thousand heads for a radio station we have over here called triple J. We have had low points but their not worth talking about.

Q.Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

A. I always thought it was going to take some time to get out of Bondi just because of the music we played and that go's for the rest of music industry as well. It's been almost 10 years now and we've stuck to our guns, put one foot in front of the other and were still moving and getting somewhere.

Q. Can you share with us one or two of your favorite moments with the band?

A. Music aside we've had some really cool times when we have taken our surfboards on the road when touring and we have gotten some great waves. Just the other week while on the road we had three days off so we all went snowboarding and that was great fun although the next few shows were hard to play because we were all so sore.

Q. How is the writing process in the band?

A. We just get together and jam things out. Maybe one of us will bring a complete or some kind of complete song to the band and then we'll all work on it if we think it needs more work. For us it's who ever comes up with the best idea or sound for the song and that helps shape the cog sound. We like to have a go on each others instruments at times to and suggest ideas to each other wether it be vocal, lyrics or interment ideas. It all makes being in a band fun like it should be.

Q. What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

A. For me not really. Music and drums were always something I new I would be involved in. My path was chosen one could say and I've never doubted it for one minute.

Q. Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

A. I don't have any idols at all but I do have people I respect very much. In the music world Frank Zappa is at the top of my list. He's giving me many laughs and listing pleasure over the years.

Q. Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording?  If so, what made you regret it?

A. No I'm lucky like that. I feel everything I've done has been a great part of my musical journey and learning. I wouldn't change any of it at all.

Q. Are their particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

A. No not really. I mean I can get over playing a song just because I've played it a hundred times live. But even then I can still play a song I'm over for someone else just to see them getting off on it and enjoy themselves. I remove my self a little I guess it's not all about me. Shit I just had a déjà vu, cool!

Q.How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

A . Well on our new album we really tried to be very coherent in the over all theme as well as we wanted the lyrics to make sense and  be easily understood. But on other albums we've been more abstracts and loose with the words. As long as they sound good together it doesn't always have to make sense. For us it's called having fun with words and how they sound as well as phonetics and frayzing it's all interesting to experiment with.

Q. What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

A. Well it's defiantly changing and you could say theirs pros and cons with the whole thing.
I like the fact that it's coming back to the artist when it comes to making music and how it can be made. I mean you have the musical tools now to make good sounding music at home. But I still think it's early days when it comes to some kind of new model in the industry for selling music so the artist can get paid for what they do as well as the money the record company lends the artist to make their music.

Q. What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

A. It's not easy at all but I think to educate people on the facts on how an album is made and what it takes would be a good start. The cost the band incurs and how much money they brow to make that album would maybe be enough to get people thinking. "Shit maybe I will buy and support this artist so he/she can pay back the money they have lent to make the album in the first place then the artist can make more music for me to enjoy because they've paid back the debt to the record company!".

Q. Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

A. Love as much as I can, own my own time and always keep an open mind.

Q. Can you describe a typical day in your life?

A. I couldn't say each day I have is a typical day at all now. The magic of life is just starting to hit me like a tone of bricks and I'm so happy to interact within the magic and beauty of life and the natural world. My relationship with the universe and respect I have for each day is very for filling to me in my soul.

Q. What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

A. I have an 8 month year old son and watching him interact with the world is just awesome. I Do yoga, love to surf, skate and read books and research interesting subjects.

Q. What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

A. When our touring car caught fire because the gum leaves in the air conditioner compacted and because the heater was on flames and smoke started to poor out in the cabin and all 8 of us in the car we're crawling over each other like rats to get out of the only two doors that were the only option for an escape root.

Q. You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

A. My music would be 1. Frank Zappa's album "Zoot Allures", Interpol's album "Turn on the Bright lights" and Bob Marley's album "Babylon by bus (live)".

Books would be 1. J.R.R Tolkien "Lord of the rings". 2. David Ickes Book "The Biggest Secret" and 3. BKS Iyengar "Light On Yoga".

Movies. 1. Paris, Texas Directed by Wim Wenders, Screen play L.M Kit Carsom and Sam Shepard 2. Big Wednesday By John Milius. And 3. Michael Tsarion "Origins and Oracles" DVD set.

Q. What is your favorite joke?

A. What's better than licking a meridian? Licking amanda out!  hahahah

Q. Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

A. Well the plan is to get our music out around the word and then tour those places. Making more music together is on the cards to.

Q. Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

A. What ever you do, do not except the micro chip under your skin when it comes time. This is a government plan they will want to bring in so stand up and say NO!
