As the title indicates "Live and Rare" is a collection of live gems and rare demos from Quiet Riot.
The first part of the CD invites you to a live show recorded in 1984. This was Quiet Riot's heyday with a massive and loud crowd. The sound however, is bootleg alike since the drums sound treble. When you have a powerhouse drummer like Frankie Banali you need a big thunderous drum sound. Since the drum sound is ambiguous the drum solo Swinging Lumber is hard to enjoy.
Personally I got a chance to relieve Condition Critical. I was a huge Quiet Riot fan back in the eighties and I remember being so disappointed in "Condition Critical" that I sold the LP and never re-bought it. However, the title track sounds amazing live driven by a tough bouncy rhythm.
Of course the big hits Cum on Feel the Noize and Metal Health are included, but the most interesting live take is Danger Zone - a track recorded for the "Metal Health" album, but never completed.
What makes this record a true gem is the three exclusive demos recorded prior to "Metal Health" Thunderbird and Love's a Bitch sounds great, but the demo for Let's Get Crazy beats the album version since the demo has more nerve and energy.
Furthermore there are 3 bonus tracks. There are all new Quiet Riot material, which also can be found on their comeback album "Alive and Well" featuring Frankie Banali, Carlos Cavazo, Rudy Sarzo and the late Kevin DuBrow.
A great CD for collectors and Quiet Riot fans. The band sure is at top of their game on the 1984 live recording.Written by
