Kingbaby - Find my Way
Who the hell is Kingbaby you might think?

Do you remember Baton Rouge? The mastermind of Kingbaby is Baton Rouge guitarist Lance Bulen. Bulen co-wrote and played on the first two Baton Rouge albums and those albums are fine craftsmanship in both songwriting and performance. A top class act!

Reading this review might confuse you. I do feel that way. Sometimes I love this album and sometimes I think its horseshit.

Crazy one is a modern rock song with catchy hooks. At first I confused this with Foo Fighters so all Baton Rouge fans better be warned since Kingbaby plays an alternative shape of rock. Lance Bulen has not forgotten how to write a great song, but the problem with Kingbaby is the diversity of the material. The album is loose but lacks direction since it tries so many different styles. No Skeletons of Monkeys is a straight ahead pop song with a great verse, but a chorus that doesn't do the verse justice at all. Stompin' sounds like it was taken off a Blind Melon CD and Find My Way is swampy Blues rock like Tony Joe White.

Basically "Find My Way" is a hit or miss from Bulen. Lay it on Me and The Mountain song are misses, while album highlights are Crazy One and You. You is against all odds a song that works, since Bulen is only accompanied by piano and strings. Lance Bulen handles both lead vocals and lead guitar. His vocal chords sound pretty good

To conclude I cannot make up my mind. Kingbaby is not fantastic at all, but something drags me back to the record and I just ordered the only CD Puzzle Gut released. Puzzle Gut was Lance Bulens band after Baton Rouge, so maybe that CD will help me with some answers?!!!!!
