Forever Slave - Tales For Bad Girls
Having ruminated over this disc for some time, the only conclusion that can be made, is that "Tales for Bad Girls" is a terrible album. Perhaps it was made to punish the bad girls that are mentioned in the title? Who knows. This is Forever Slave's second full length disc, the first being a strange mishmash of Dante's Inferno and Alice in Wonderland. It came out alright, but was nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, this second effort is only worth noting for being a torturous experience.

Lady Angellyca is their "leader" as in voice and stage presence. She is an attractive "goth" styled girl that has no voice for this material whatsoever. She sings in the same detached monotone, undeniably feminine and always sounding too sweet. It's like sprinkling store brand sugar over something dark, fuzzy and frothing (moldy maybe?). Take for instance the juvenile song "Dickhead!" where you would expect a hint of passion and conviction from someone using such words, along with "leave me alone" to add emphasis. Instead she sings it in a saccharine tone that leaves the listener not caring about the outcome at all.

The music repeats itself over and again, it's as if they found one or two guitar rhythm riffs, distorted them in fuzz and slapped them into every single song. The monotony of the voice coupled with the annoying repetitive instrumental track makes for a disc that's memorable only for being horribly irritating. Angellyca's vocal range is zero, and when she should be throwing some emotion into the track, it just comes off as trite and boring. The lyrics are elementary sing-song simple rhymes that try to be "shocking" by incorporating some sexual deviant stories that probe topics such as homosexuality, pederasty and more. It should be shocking, but you can't understand what Angellyca is singing half of the time anyway, as her accent and method of singing drown it alive.

"Tales for Bad Girls" is a flat, boring album that tries to be edgy but fails miserably. Buried under atrocious cringe inducing lyrics, boredom inducing repetitious guitar patterns, some ridiculous male "cookie monster vocals" (try "Gothix Girls" for that particular embarrassment at its "finest"), and uninspired singing. Even goth fans are going to be turned off of this one, there's just nothing here to redeem it. Not the piano twist on "The Lovers" or the little goth/electronica instrumental of "Pulse". Lady Angellyca should stick with modeling, Forever Slave would be better off finding a new vocalist (and some inspiration along the way), and potential buyers should seek elsewhere for their "Gothix Girls" (sic) fix, instead of being subjected to this tragic mess.
