Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Carlos Gutierrez (Drummer) Anthony Vasquez (Bass) Ricardo Rangel ( Lead Vocals and Guitar) Chris Monroy (Lead Guitar)

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

Thrash Metal! we strarted as a traditional Heavy Metal band, then developed into thrash metal.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Our latest album is "Spread the Fire" if you like old school thrash metal that makes you want to bang your fuckin head and slam in the pit then this is the album for you.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

The band formed in 2002, we started as a garage band trying to play heavy metal with big influences from Iron Maiden, Armored Saint, and Dio. There has been many line up changes in Fueled By Fire, the first line up was Carlos Gutierrez (drums) Salvador Zepeda (guitar) Adrian Gallego (Bass) Ray Fierro (Vocals). We were all real good friends from school.

High lights of our career are when we did our mini tour in Europe and it was very successful. the first date was the KIT X Festival in Germany! That was a fuckin kick ass tour meeting fans from all over Europe and even other countrys.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Well there never was that thought, we never tried to get signed it just happened. We put our album out ourselves and distributed it all over the world our selves, so we were gonna get out there one way or another. Then Earache and Metal Blade contacted us and then we signed with Metal Blade.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Playing all our local Los Angels thrash festivals Thrasho de Mayo 1,2 and 3, they were all sold out shows and kick ass! Its really cool that us local bands can put this show together every year and have a kick ass show!

The other favorite moment is playing the KIT X Festival in Germany! that was a badass show for us! We got to play in front of 2000 Die hard Heavy Metal Maniax! we couldn't ask for something better!

How is the writing process in the band?

Well we sit down and come up with something cool on the guitar and then we put drums to it, then whoever has something cool to add to it then we put it in or if someone has an idea what it should sound like them we try it out. and if it sounds good then we keep it and go on from there. After we finish the whole song and everyone's happy, then we sit down and think of a concept for the song, and then we write the lyrics and come up with a name for it.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

We loved Heavy Metal, so why not make a band and play your own music for other people to like. It was a dream to signed and making records and touring so we never really thought of anything else to do other than music.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording?  If so, what made you regret it?

Not really any regrets, we belive everything happens for a reason, and we follow the path that it takes us, but we follow it very carefully.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Yes, a good amount of people like the song Betrayal, but we cant stand that song, we dont really like the lyrics, and the music is ok to play.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Pretty important, when people go to your shows they always sing along, so you dont want to write something stupid that doesn't make sense and everyone sigs along stupid lyrics. so i think its pretty important.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

Well it can be pretty dirty sometimes, unless your on a label that wants you for who you are and what you play and they give you a good deal, otherwise, your fucked! Because then they want to mold you into some fuckin mainstream bullshit so everybody can like you, and you can sell all kinds of records and make them all kinds of money, and you just aren't happy because your not playing what you want to. Playing music is supposed to be fun and if you want to make it a job then it should still be fun, you got to be happy playing your music.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Your not gonna beat that, you just got to make your albums and vinyls and hope no one burns it for all his friends and actually supports the band they like. Maybe you can fight it by doing all kinds of limited edition stuff.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

You only live once.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Sleep, wake up watch tv or listen to metal, eat, drink beer! practice our music and do it all over again! hahahaha!!

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Partying with friends and other people!

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

We got into a car crash in Denver Colorado, we hit black ice and went out of control, we totalled our trailer, our merch was all over the freeway. The good thing was that no one got hurt and our equipment was ok, we just grabbed our merch as fast as possible before it all got ran over.

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Music
Iron Maiden- Killers
Running Wild- Gates to Purgatory
Exodus- Bonded by Blood

Movies
Goodfellas
Super Bad
A Bronx Tale

NO BOOKS!
Maybe some mags and fanzines.

What is your favourite joke?

Yo mommas teeth are so big, when she sneezes she bites her chest!!

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

To record our new album, go back and tour Europe and tour the U.S.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Thank you very much for the questions, to all readers we hope you like our music and if you do, buy it, no piracy allowed! haha! support the band. We hope to see all of you very soon! KEEP IT TRUE !!!!
