Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

My name is Michael Alm. I play the lead-guitar.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

I think our style is a mix of death/black and horror metal with our own special touch to it. We have always been determined to play this style of music since it is what we all enjoy playing as well as listening to.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Our latest album is "Perversions of angel VI" and people should buy this album because it is a very versatile and well composed piece with both fast and very melodic sequences blending together in perfect harmony, you cannot help it getting on your feet and bang your head while listening to it.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

The band was formed back in 1998 in Sonderborg. We met at a local place called Sondeborghus. We had different bands at the time, but we soon figured out that we had a common vision as how to present metal, and that became the birth of Fairytale Abuse. The first highlight of the band was the release of our demo Catharsis in '99 which reached the top of the mp3.com metal chart. Two years later we embarked upon our first us tour which was an amazing experience with a lot of positive feedback to follow. A couple of years later we decided to relocate to Aarhus to fully concentrate on taking our music to the next level. We landed our first deal with a small Colombia based label, Hateworks to release our first full-length cd "The spirit Tower". This was both a high and a low point for us since it was amazing to finally getting signed  by a label but the album never got promoted properly so it did not get the recognition we hoped for. In 2007 we recorded our latest album "perversions of angel VI", which led to a deal with Massacre Records in Germany.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

When we released "The spirit tower" and it hardly got recognized it certainly crossed our minds, but as soon as we started writing material for "Perversions of angel VI" we realized that we had a lot to offer to this business, and are now more motivated than ever before.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

I think the US tour stands out to me as one of the best experiences I have had with the band since it showed that we were able to co-exist with each other throughout an entire month without getting on each others nerves. It proved to us that we had a perfect chemistry within the band.

How is the writing process in the band?

Usually we start out with a guitar or keyboard riff and take it from there.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

Music was a natural choice for me, my farther played the guitar in his youth and he had a guitar lying about which I picked up at the age of 12 and have played ever since.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

My biggest idols are Angus Young (AC/DC) and Dimebag Darrel (Pantera r.i.p)

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording?  If so, what made you regret it?

No regrets so far

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

No, not really

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

The music is the most important part of our concept but the lyrics help complete the atmosphere of our compositions.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

It is not at its best but it seems that its about to get better

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

It seems impossible to me.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Not really I just want to have fun while I'm here

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

No!

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Computer and movies and the occasional book

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

That would have to be when our bass player snapped his E-string during a concert in the US and since we did not have a spare bass he had improvise throughout the rest of the concert.

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Albums:
Perversions of angel VI, Fairytale abuse
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, Dimmu Borgir
Highway to hell, AC/DC

Movies:
One night at the Roxbury
Lord of the rings Trilogy

Books:
Lord of the rings

What is your favourite joke?

None in particular

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

Difficult to say but we are ready to deal with whatever the future may have in store for us.
