Sister Sin is an up and coming Hard rock band out of Gothenburg, Sweden. They formed in 2003 and this EP airs some serious potential. Their music is high on energy and attitude while the melodic element is kept in focus by strong hooks and memorable choruses. The band is fronted by a female vocalist. Mind you, this is not your average dose of sweetness. Liv's performance is surprisingly raw and powerful as she lifts the band above the crowd. A high amount of well placed backing vocals add extra energy to the songs.
The EP has been very well produced with a sound that smacks you right in the face. The guitar and vocals are right up front and both have an appealing crunch to them.
Hostile-Violent kicks off with an aggressive and forceful attack that suits its title. My personal favorite,
Breaking New Ground has a strong drive and awesome backing vocals that intensify the song, a feeling not unlike that found on CrashDïet's debut.
On Parole is blatantly melodic. The chorus has a great harmony that made an impression from the first listen.
Love Hate and
All Systems go don't quite reach the same level as the first three but are still good songs and underline the potential the band has.
A couple of areas where the band can improve is in their general tightness and Liv's vocals, which sometimes have a bit strained feel to them.
Fans of CrashDïet,
D:A:D and everything in between should check out this band. Judging by these five songs they have a bright future ahead. They are playing the Zeppelin stage at the Sweden Rock Festival 2008 next Thursday. Definitely worth checking out!
