Paul Gilbert - Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar
Paul Gilbert is back! Like his previous album this is an instrumental guitar album. Compared to "Get out my Yard" Paul sounds a lot more inspired. Gilbert's licks and melody lines are just much better. The title track is instrumental guitar when its best.

The guitar is a wonderful instrument. There are much more than chords and notes - you can bend, mute, harmonics and in general make all kid of fuzzy noise on it. We get the whole spectre from Gilbert. The piano ballad Piano ballad Suite Mondale breaks the endless guitar solos and also his rendition of Burt Bacharach/Elvis Costello track I Still have that other Girl varies the record.

"Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar" has several great melodies and variation. However, I prefer the Paul Gilberts albums, which featured vocals. Gilbert had just created his own unpretentious Beatles/Enuff Z'Nuff hard Rocking style when he decided going back being a true guitar hero.
It's hard to anything negative about this record since Gilbert is so technically crafted. However, perfect instrumental guitar "hero" music also tends to become boring.
