They were the contenders to the Rock throne in Sweden. After six albums
Hellacopters releases "Head Off" as their final album.
"By the Grace of God" was a fantastic album from the Swedes, but the follow up "Rock N' Roll is Dead" unfortunately had a saying title. "Head Off" gets
Hellacopters back on track and this album sounds like the natural follow up to "By the Grace of God".
Even though "Head Off" is a solid album
Hellacopters has lost some charm. You trace some tiredness in the songs, so maybe calling it quits is a good decision to keep the reputation.
The best songs are the ones that follow the trail of the later albums with a more refined and polished approach.
Midnight Angels is a slick rocker with a melodic chorus that sounds like an obvious choice as first single.
No Salvation is another song that matches their back catalogue.
Rescue is built around a riff that sounds like Blue Oyster Cult's
Don't Fear the Reaper (on speed). The song takes us back to the high octane days where Nicke Anderson and Robert Dahlquist traded solos on all songs. The old sparkle is missing on several songs like
Veronica Lake. "Head Off" is 35 minutes of joy with a grain of disappointment and a aftertaste of sadness, since this is a farewell to a band that always delivered on stage.
