Sebastian Bach - Angel Down
"Angel Down" is Sebastian Bach's first solo album in eight years and his first album to include all new original songs. Still living on his undying legacy from Skid Row Bach finally proves that he stands on his own. Sebastian Bach's solo album has been much anticipated in Hard Rock circles.

So does the album live up to the expectations? No! "Angel Down" has one foot in traditional party Hard Rock and one foot in traditional heavy metal. After viewing "Super Group" on VH1 I knew that Bach's heart beats for the raw Judas Priest Heavy metal. Hell, Bach suggested that the super group named them FIST..... he he. It certainly was an enjoyable TV show.

Bach has not gone softer with the years. There are plenty of "fist in the air" Heavy Metal tunes. Bach's band consists of people who earlier played with Rob Halford, Iced Earth etc. Bach seems to write songs by the means; the more aggressive the better - unfortunately at the expense of melody. Guitarist Metal Mike Chlasciak has penned American Metalhead, which sounds like Balls to the Wall part 2 and eloquent for "Angel Down". It is mostly primitive Heavy Metal.

In an interview Bach proclaimed "Angel Down" to be the natural follow up to "Slave to the Grind". Well, at first the album seems very alike "Slave to the Grind", but as it gets under your skin it sounds more alike "Subhuman Race".

"Angel Down" has some great tracks. You Don't Understand is built around a melodic signature riff. Ironically Axl Rose almost steals the spotlight. The CD has a big sticker on it saying "featuring guest vocals by Axl Rose". Axl brings his gritty vocals to the amazing (Love Is) A Bitchslap which is a party Hard Rock tune. He also contributes to the best of the aggressive songs: Stuck Inside.

Bach´s crispy voice sounds good but his voice just fits the ballads much better than high pitched Heavy metal. By Your Side is a haunting ballad with Bach's characteristic vibrato, which just puts loads of emotion to the song. Desmond Child has co-written album closer Falling into You, which gets you hooked after first listen.

Bach wants to be the man in leather and long hair making real metal, but he is better off with denim and Hard Rock.
