Andre Andersen - Black on Black
This is the second album from Andre Andersen, the keyboard player of Royal Hunt.

It probably won't come as a surprise to many that this album contains lots of great keyboard playing. The sound is very similar to the new Royal Hunt album, The Mission. That means a very good and clear production dominated by the keyboard and guitar.

The mood is set right away with the opener Coming home which has a nice intro before going all out metal when the scream of Ian Perry (Elegy) rips through the speakers. This is one of my favorites of the album.

There are many good songs on this release. The title track is a good mid tempo song with a great chorus. Life and Sail away are two fast songs. Especially Life has some great melodies and a good drive.

Desperate times is the most progressive song of the album. Sometimes it has an almost Ayreon feel to it... A very nice slow song which takes some time to get really into.

The playing on the whole record is consistent, especially the guitarist Rene Realand plays some awesome solos. Ian Parry's voice gives the album another advantage. His voice fits the music right on.

The album has a couple of great instrumentals too. Arena is a pretty fast one with great keyboards and guitar playing. Eclipse is a slower and moodier piece with an awesome emotional guitar solo.

This is a good album. I miss a little more variation between the songs though. All fans of Royal Hunt should run out and get this at once. You will not be disappointed. Fans of melodic metal should give this one a chance too.
