Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

I'm Napo, one of the 2 guitarists in the band

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Well.me and Dr.K (The drummer) decided long time ago to raise up a tribute to Iron Maiden (and the name talks for itself..the 1st song of their 1st album), so we called some friends and set the 1st line-up, with Me and The Eldar on guitars, Dr.K on drums, Fabio on vocals and our friend Sergio on bass. We started soon to play original songs together with the Maiden ones but after some years Sergio quit the band and we found another good bass player: Alessandro. The latest member who joined the band was Max on keyboards that arrived in 2003, just after the release of "Souls Thieves".
Then we started composing new songs and with the 4 track demo Devil's Bridge we found an agreement with the managing company Intromental that brought us the deal with Locomotive Records..and here we are!

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Just before we found the agreement with Steelborn Records for our 1st cd "Souls Thieves" we had an unfortunate deal with a company (I don't reveal the name) that blocked us with a 1 yr contract that brought us nowhere. Luckily just at the expiring date we found the italian label and we should releas our CD.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Devil's Bridge is its name, and if you like to listen to very different sounds and musical genres in the same CD, well..it's worth your money.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

I prefer other people to give us a "classification" and I would let them listen and decide, that's the best thing, but if I have to explain..well..a mixture of old school 80's metal mixed with progressive, power and sometimes gothic elements.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Surely when Dr.K, Fabio and me went all to Denmark to work with Tommy Hansen, a guy that we all loved for the sound he gave to metal masterpieces like "The Keeper of the 7 keys" from Helloween. He is a very special guy, like a "never grown up" child..he enjoys his work, he is passional, but also very professional.
We lived with him and his wife for a week and we never felt "strangers", on the last days you could say that we were "friends from a lifetime".

How is the writing process in the band?

Let's start sayin' that everything can be of ispiration, things we read, things that happens..usually the music comes first, one of us brings a riff, or a complete song, but we all participate actively for the arrangements..and then come the lirycs, but sometimes is also the opposite, with the music build over a concept we want to express.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

We all are not yet "professional", we still have a job on our own, you know, the music scene is hard now, and for a band still at the beginning is important to have some ways to help you live and go on with your passion.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Well..i've past the "age of idols", there are people that I respect and admire for what they have done or what they do, but they're not real idols..talkin' about the musical scene: I would like to thank Iron Maiden and Kiss that are the 1st hard rock - heavy metal bands I've listened to, and in life..well..surely my Mom and Dad.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

No way, I'm very proud of all the recordings we made so far, and I think we made everything at the best for the moment we were living!

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

As I said before, I'm proud of every "Prowlers" song..every one of them is a part of me, and there is a part of me in everyone of them..

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

To spread messages is not our 1st target, but surely we pay attention to the concepts we want to express.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

Another question please..LOL, just jokin', but is better not to talk about this concept, you know, the growing of the internet brought great diffusion to music, but most of the times is "free diffusion" and that's not so good, because most people don't understand that there is a huge work behind that simple plastic round thing called CD.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Surely to lower the costs of the final product, but also lower some other aspects like the price of concerts, merchandising and so on..can you imagine a young guy spending lots of money to go to a concert (that can't be pirated), and then he has the possibility to have music for free and non-original merchandise at half price.he will surely follow the cheaper way.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Live and let live...too easy?

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Wake up at 7am, go to work and remain there until 5pm, then my life begins - LOL. The rest of the day is spent playin' with the band, playin' soccer, resting, go dancing' with friends.and obviously there is always space for my girlfriend, a special person who still tolerates me - LOL

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

As I told before, I play soccer 1-2 times a week, then I like to watch movies, read books (Fantasy books are my favourites), play videogames, and obviously..listen some music.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

No really crazy things, maybe something funny like the day we thought we lost Sandro (the bass player) who disappeared at 7 in the mornin' after 1 gig (we went to bed at 4)..and after some time we found him walkin' alone on the beach near the hotel..but you know, nothing really crazy!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

CD
Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory (vinyl, picture disc)
Iron Maiden - 7th Son of a 7th Son
Metallica - The Black Album

Movies
Pulp Fiction - Quentin Tarantino
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Amadeus - Milos Forman

Books
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - J.R.R. Tolkien
The Silence of the Lambs - Thomas Harris
All the LOVECRAFT novels

What is your favourite joke?

You know, jokes comes spontaneously..when asked.simply doesn't come into my mind..

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We have to see how "Devil's Bridge" will be accepted by fans, but if they will like it only half of what the critics say, we expect to tour as soon as possible to promote it as it deserves. And then, we're already workin' on new songs.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

I want to thank you for helping us to promote our music and I want to thank all the fans in the world that support us with emails, guestbook signs and also the "silent fans" that don't communicate with us directly but are part of our "family"!
