Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

I am Jimmy Ratchitt. I am the lead singer of kottak and play guitar.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Athena and i started writing in 1997. We recorded and released 'greatist hits' in 2000 under the band name krunk. We have been through more than most bands that have been together 20 years. Cancer, divorce, re-hab, fist fights, you name it...

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

We never had a doubt we would circle the globe....failure is not an option. People don't plan to fail....they fail to plan.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

We are very proud to release our debut cd kottak 'therupy' to the world! It is a cd full of songs to feed the human emotion inside that no one wants to talk about.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

We are punk-n-roll! We sound like cheap trick meets green day on a bad day!

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

We just played the wacken festival in germany. Releasing 'therupy' worldwide....thanx escapi music! We played a few shows on the warped tour (usa) in 2001...way cool!

How is the writing process in the band?

Athena and i write almost everything. We have hundreds of songs...most of them are great!

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I have been obsessed with rock music as long as i can remember...i never considered any other job!

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

John bonham...jason bonham rules the world on drums now...i saw him last saturday...awesome! Best drummer in the world!

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

In the early 90's, i was a hollywood drum whore. I drummed on over 60 cds from 1988 to 1996...great money!...i didn't care about the music.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Scorpions/eye to eye is under-rated...it's great! I drummed on the cult/ceremony cd, later released as the 'red light sessions'. Could have been great, but, snooze...

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Athena and i spend hours sorting out lyrics...she's incredible and warped!

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

For better or worse...it will always be changing

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

I don't have a clue...how anyone can download without paying and listen in the mirror is beyond me...it is stealing!

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Play every show, live every day as if it were your last!

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

When i am at home: 7am, take kids to skool. 8am, eat breakfast/watch local news/read paper. 9-12business/computer/phone/interviews,1pm---write/record/create, 6-7 dinner, 8pm...wind down/entertainment (we have a cinema in our home!) 10pm/bed....wake up and do it again.

On the road: ?????????Work/travel/playwork/travel/play

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

I love to cook!

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

That is impossible to answer! Surfing the piano in thailand was pretty awesome!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (max. 3 of each)

Cds: ac/dc back in black, zepplin physical graphitti, zepplin 4, movies: castaway, castaway, castaway. Books: bible, the power of positive thinking (norman vincent peale), how to get off a deserted island manual.

What is your favourite joke?

I can't remember lyrics or jokes!

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We want to put out as many cds and tour as many countries as possible!

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.
