'Blood Sweat And Towers' is the hyped debut album from UK rockers Towers Of London. The album has been compared to Guns n' Roses' "Appetite to Destruction" and critics predicted that this album should once again revolutionize Rock music.
Towers of London have been Axl Rose's preferred support band on the revamped Guns N' Roses' UK dates and in the press material the music is described as a hybrid of Sex Pistols and Mötley Crüe.
"Blood Sweat and Towers" is by no way the album that saves Rock N' Roll or starts a new revolution of Hard rock with punk influence.
The album is permeated by
Towers of London's British charm and the heavy accent of lead singer Donny Tourette - the accent is actually the closest we get to Sex Pistols. Some of the lyrics are quite entertaining. The song
Beaujolais has a couple of ironic lines that celebrates us simple men;
I like my beer when it's in the can
And sneakers when they're sold out the back of a van
Music wise
Towers of London sounds like a Hard Rock band with a slight touch of polished punk (exemplified on first single
Air Guitar). They have a youthful energy, which is unleashed on album highlights
I'm a Rat and
King.
Kill the Pop Scene somehow reminds of the something that Bad News could have written if they still were around. The song is probably a live favourite because of the message, but
Towers of London are sometimes hard to take serious with the cheap lyrics - like on the mediocre
Fuck it Up.
The energy and talent is there. "Blood Sweat and Towers" is not a masterpiece mainly because it's not consistent. However, the band did manage to make some attitude filled songs with
I'm a Rat in particular as a great contribution to today's rock scene. This record is not gonna make
Towers of London the next big thing, but album number two is certainly one to watch with excitement.
