Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

John Jowitt, Bass player

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Jem Godfrey is a talented songwriter in the pop world, having four UK No.1's. However, he learnt to play keyboards from an early Genesis addiction, and success in songwriting gave him the opportunity to return to his first love. Ordering 40 current progressive albums led him to stumble across Kino and John Mitchell, and Jem asked him to play on the new album. John Jowitt and Andy Edwards, the Sly and Robbie (Sly and Proggie?) of the prog world were recruited and the album is released towards the end of July 2006.

Highlights so far have been the reaction of listeners to the album matching that of the musicians!

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

No.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Our first album, Milliontown combines progressive arrangements with hooks and great songs. Buy it because you'll love it. If I wasn't in the band, I would.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

Catchy prog, loads of technique used in the service of songs you can whistle.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Hearing the album for the first time, and getting very drunk in London with the band and friends at another prog concert in London

How is the writing process in the band?

All of the music so far is written by Mr Jem Godfrey, keyboard player extraordinaire

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I was originally going to fly Spitfires in the Royal Air Force until I found they'd stopped making them. I also have my own business working in development. I consider myself a musician who works to keep his family, rather than music being secondary to work.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Billy Idol. I've had him.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

Being a Pisces, I'm born to regret everything I've ever done, or not done.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

No.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Vital. It's what draws people into the world you are trying to create.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

I think that the industry constantly evolves. The internet and the opportunities it brings have been incredibly liberating. The music industry is the same as any other - it won't take a band on just because they think they're great - they have to know they're going to make money out of a proposal. Bands and musicians so often forget that they are their own business, and try and put that onto someone else, which is a complete abrogation.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

I don't. Use it to your own ends instead.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Nothing matters much, and in the end nothing matters at all, but try to be nice to people on the way through.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

No such thing as a typical day! They're all pretty different!

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

My children, Ellen (5), Louis (3) and Daniel (nearly 1)

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

No tours as yet with Frost, we're that new. First tour in October; ask me after that.

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Albums: Tales from Topographic Oceans, Mr Bungle 1st album, Beethoven's Pastoral

Movies: Pulp Fiction, The Shining,

Books: Complete Works of Shakespeare, 'A History of Architecture on the Comparative Method', and The Apprentice by Gordon Houghton

What is your favourite joke?

Aston Villa Football Club

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

The plan is to see how far we can take the band in five years, with an album and tour every year.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Enjoy the music; enjoy all music! Hope to see you at a show some time in the future.
