"Carnival of Sins" is a live recording taken from last year's infamous
Mötley Crüe re-union Tour that just seemed to continue forever. Now the band rests and hopefully they will put out a new studio album - to maintain the reunion buzz they release "Carnival of Sins", which already has been out in the states.
Take a look at the setlist and you have some of the best written hard rock songs that define what is described as the 80's. It was a great time and
Mötley Crüe was among the pioneers with their "Too Fast for Love" album that came out in 1982 and the band peaked on 1989's "Dr. Feelgood". Along with "Shout at the Devil" these 3 albums are the primary ingredients for this set-list.
The anticipated reunion tour was
Mötley Crüe's return as a full blown stadium act and you can hear the production is big with several stage bombs plus fireworks.
The big issue on the tour was Mick Mars, who was more dead than alive when
Mötley Crüe's management approached him concerning the reunion. Mars got a new hip for the tour and he returns the bands belief in him by delivering the best musical performance on the disc. As a single guitarist he does a splendid job and he sounds just as great as back in the day.
Vince Neil is Vince Neil - like it or not, but his voice is so characteristic and something you immediately link to the name
Mötley Crüe. Vince sounds really good in this performance.
Nikki has a great stage presence, which doesn't show on a live CD and
Tommy Lee is the solid backbone of the band.
Mötley Crüe plays two new songs that were featured on the "Red
White and Crüe" compilation;
If I die Tomorrow has long been a favourite of mine and
Sick Love song, which Mötley played on
Sweden Rock festival 2005.
The two new songs falls a bit out of place with a setlist stuffed with classics songs. Compared to "Live Entertainment or Death" the new songs just emphasizes that this is Mötley in the year 2005 and they are back.
The setlist doesn't include anything from "New Tattoo" and a short version of
Glitter is the only thing from "Generation Swine". The rest is classic material, which makes it impossible not to rate this CD high. You can't go wrong with these songs. Hopefully
Mötley Crüe is back to stay!
"Carnivals of Sins" is also released on DVD and since
Mötley Crüe toured with a big stage production one should might consider getting the visual aspect as well.
