Tyla & Spike - Flagrantly Electrically Acoustically Yours
In 1996 Spike & Tyla recorded "Flagrantly Yours" under the moniker "Spike & Tyla's Hot knives". 2005 sees the re-release of this album in a special double CD package. CD2 is the original album in a re-mastered version, while the first disc is the same set of songs performed acoustic.

This time Spike and Tyla have reversed their names to "Tyla and Spike" and skipped "Hot Knives". The original recording of "Flagrantly Yours" is great British pub rock with Dogs D'Amour frontman Tyla as main songwriter. The two English boozer-troubadours fit great together. The record is in harmony since both Tyla & Spike are 100 percent rock 'n' roll in everything they do

The original record is raw but honest rock 'n' roll. Both the electric and acoustic sides are honest with a few flaws that make it pure and honest. It's unpolished on purpose. For example on the acoustic side there is feedback noise from an electric guitar on Lost in a Crowd of one, which isn't removed from the recording

The acoustic is not entirely acoustic. It is the same songs stripped back primalrly acoustic guitar, but Tyla also plays the electric to add more body to the songs.

Tyla's dark voice blends in perfectly with Spike's hoarse Rock n' Roll voice.
Spike really shines on the acoustic version of his own Know, where his heartfelt vocals make the listener soft.

Basically the highlights of the acoustic album are the same as on the original album. Believe, Failure, How Long, Villains Price and Possessed are all great songs. Starbucks is another favorite that for some reason cannot be found on the acoustic.

The only song that deviates is my long time favorite on "Flagrantly Yours" Lost In A Crowd Of One. The original version is melodic and ballsy with some emotional effects. The acoustic version has a new arrangement, where the emotion of the original unfortunately is lost.

The acoustic side features a spoken word intro from Tyla chronicling the circumstances of the original album

Overall this is value for money and if you are fan of either Quireboys or Dogs D'Amour and didn't get this album when it came out this is your personal Christmas present. For fans like myself who has had the album for a long time it is just a great occasion to re-live the songs in different and stripped back versions.
