Band profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Sven - I'm the bassplayer.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Perzonal War was formed in 1996, at this time still with bassplayer Frank Buchwalter (..he's the brother of Martin ). I replaced him in 2003.
Martin (our drummer ) and Metti (vocals) met each other in school, doing some music. Later they found Sascha then - but they still needed a bassplayer. So they asked Frank ( he was formerly playing guitar ) .and that's it :)

Yes there were some highlights : Of course the Sziget - Festival in Hungary (..a very huge festival with all kinds of music on it ), two other gigs in Hungary on a metal festival in front of 2000 people and of course the tour with CIIC and Blaze !
I think we won a lot of new fans on those events, so maybe that's the reason why we can still do records without paying for it ;-)
So a huge THANK YOU to all the fans out there !!!
Hmmm, low points.everytime when there is no Burger King on tour.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Yes, sure - I think it's like that every time in the beginning of a Band's carreer.
You want to get popular with your band as soon as possible, but you don't even know as a young band how much you have to work for it - it can take some time, you know.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

"WHEN TIMES TURN RED" is our latest album.
People should buy it because it's METAL :)
It's rough and full of power, but without losing the beautiful melodies.
Crank up the volume and the sound will blow you away, I promise !

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

It's all Rock'n' Roll. We hate to categorize things. You can bang your head on it, and that's very important for us - hell yeah !
Unemotional I would say it is a mixture between thrash, alternative and heavy metal.
I think we are growing and still learning with every album, so be prepared, because we don't know what will happen on our next album.;-)

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Hmmm.playing in hungary in front of a beautiful crowd with really nasty & nice fans, that was awesome !
And of course everytime when we got some nice response from our fans - that makes you believe in the things we do and keeps you everytime to work a little bit stronger for the band.

How is the writing process in the band?

Normally Metti has the most of the guitar-riffs & ideas - and then we try them out in our rehersalroom and everybody puts his own ideas in it.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

For myself : I love music and I love to make some music, too - and it is a pleasure for me to play live. There are a few musicians in my family (..my granddad has played violin, my grandmother play piano ) - and I got my first acoustic guitar when I was 6 years old. So I was still in contact with music.
If I had not become a musician, I think I would working for the police now.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

There are some - Mahatma Ghandi & Martin Luther King - because of their peaceful fight for humanity.hmmm.and maybe some old jazz-musicians, because of their wonderful music.like Ben Webster, Art Tatum.and Henry Rollins for his strengh.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

No ! . The time tells the story - We're proud with every music we have done so far - because we like 'em at the time we made them.

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

No.

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Very important - because there are so much personal things in the lyrics that Metti wrote. I think he's a very talented songwriter.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

BAD. Quality doesn't count anymore, only the "fast" money. That's kind of sad, because there are so many fantastic bands without a deal out there.and new boy & girlgroups doing their next shitty record.

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

.Setting the CD-prizes lower - quite simple.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Enlarge your mind by building relationships, not by using drugs.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Working, eating, fucking ( ..sometimes..), sleeping.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Meeting friends, watching movies, practicing fitness & martial arts.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

Meeting the guys from CIIC ! Awesome !! What'n dey Heall !!!

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Movies :
Altered States
The Haunting
The Exorcist

Albums :
Ben Webster : Soulville
Botch : We are the romans
Minus the Bear : highly refined pirates

Books:
Rüdiger Nehberg : survival-lexicon
Brockhaus Compendium
Hustler Compilation

What is your favourite joke?

Two Clairvoyants talking together.

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

We try to do some festivals next year, and we want to do a tour again.maybe with Metallica.we will see ;-)
