What is your name and your current position in the band?
Tony Borg. Guitar
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
Alien started 1986. In 1988 was when we had our break with the hit single Only One Woman. We released a couple of more albums and then disbanded in 1994. Reuinted again in 2004. More about that on our website www.alien-music.info
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
Before Alien went big I had been working as a musician for 15 years. I could see Alien's potential already when the band was formed.
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
Dark eyes. Because it tells people that we are still alive and kicking. That we can still write and record good songs.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
Classik rock. We have always been inspired by the 70s and 80s music. It's what we grew up with.
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
Getting on stage with Alien in 2004 in Gothenburg. Seeing Jim there next to me and having those incredible guys backing us. And the crowd. Must not forget the crowd in front of us. The place was packed!
How is the writing process in the band?
Jim and I write most of the songs. We do get a bit of help with the lyrics sometimes.
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
I had two choices. I would either become a musician or would become a musician. I chose to be a musician.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
I didn't have any idols when I went to school. I do find inspiration in listening to other musicians. These are a few: George Harrisson, Jim Hendrix, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, BB King, Lelie West, Ritchie Blackmore
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
No!
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
I've never thought of that
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
I like lyrics that the listener can relate to and make their own.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
As usual it's the sales lists that rule the market. The music industry is a necessity. It's too bad that a CD is costing so much though. What the consumer pays for the CD in the store is nowhere near what the musician get in the end. You work out who gets the difference. Sure, marketing and packaging costs but you work out where the difference goes.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
Drop the prices on the CDs and create good cover artwork and packaging. We need to make the consumer want the product.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
I want to be able to play music as long as there are humans on this earth who wants to listen to music.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I get up at 7.30 in the morning and get to bed around midnight. Inbetween is full throttle. I teach, work in the studio or am playing a gig.
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
Golf, tennis, watch football/soccer and Ice Hockey. In the summers I like to barbeque in the evenings or travel.
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
Pass!
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)
Made in Japan and Machinehead by Deep Purple, Where Eagles Dare with Clint Eastwood and Lord of the rings.
What is your favourite joke?
Kurtan from Gothenburg. Not a joke but a comedian
Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?
We want to get on the road and play!
