Band profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Hi, I am Simone Fiorletta and I have two musical projects: I'm guitarist in the Power-Prog metal band Moonlight Comedy and I also work as solo artist.

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your carrer, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

The Moonlight Comedy formed between 98/99. Me and Andrea Scala (the drummer) had already played together for several years. In that period we knew Armando Pizzuti, bass player of another band, so we offered him the chanve to get together. Armando accepted and brought with himelf the singer Emiliano Germani. We got in touch with the keyboard player Gianluigi Farina with whom I had some experiences in the past. so the Moonlight Comedy were born. We soon found great affinity among us! Obviously like all the bands we have had highlights and low points during this journey that has brought us to the first contract and the first release, but if now we are still here it's only because we have set our sights and always looked forward.

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Sincerely, since our first meeting we decided to go out from a local reality. We have never thought to become a cover-band or to release only demo material to have pleasure in doing it. We have always composed and proposed our music to some label, so much that we have arrived to the prestigious Lion Music with which we have released our debut The Life Inside and my solo album Parallel Worlds. I am looking forward to carrying on this beautiful relationship.

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

My last work goes back less than two months ago. Lion Music have just released my solo album, "Parallel Worlds"; why people should buy it? Simply because it's not a cold work, not based only and exclusively on technique and virtuosities (about that you could visit the reviews in www.simonefiorletta.it). I have tried to release an album concentrating on the music as expression of feelings rather than technique. I believe that this work can strike an ample number of listeners.

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

As regards Moonlight Comedy, I guess you can say that we play Power-Prog Metal; if I must name you some reference groups, I would say Symphony X, Fates Warning and Van Den Plas.
I could define my soloist album as sentimental Rock.

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

With Moonlight so many beautiful moments spent together; I remember with pleasure the recording sessions of our first album, "The Life Inside". unforgettable experience, the concerts with November, Secret Sphere and others.
As soloist I remember with pleasure when I opened the Neil Zaza concert: according to me he has always been a big guitarist and sharing the same stage with him has been a unique emotion.

How is the writing process in the band?

Moonlight Comedy usually like to compose music all together. We start with the instrumental layout, generally me and Andrea Scala, then follow bass and keyboards. We leave lyrics and vocal lines to Emiliano Germani.
As regards my solo project, all the traces have been entirely written by me; first I usually jot down a line of rhythmic guitar, then I add the lead guitar. After that, I program the rhythmic parts of drum, bass and keyboards to listen how the song plays. When I am satisfied, I deliver these tracks to the other musicians.

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

I began to approach myself to music when I was 7 years old, following the example of my brother and my two cousins. In the beginning I had piano lessons. At 12 I begun to feel my first Rock-Metal albums... I was crushed by those guitars so distorted and aggressive they made me shiver. I thought that was the way to follow.

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

More than idols there are guitarists like Joe Satriani and Neil Zaza that strike at the end of my soul. I love the musicians, guitarists and not, that succeed in expressing with the music their feelings, laying bare and showing as they are inside.

Do you have any regrets looking back at your carrer? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

Sincerely no. Obviously some work released in the past now may results old, but I believe that it's right, isn't it?

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Also to this question I must answer no. If I release a song or an album, I always try to propose something that satisfies me in one way or another and at the same time must mirror a side of mine.

12.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Inside Moonlight Comedy songs express really happened situations or several ways to see the life. Then it's important the selection of terms, words etc. that must communicate sensations to the listeners.

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

I believe that there is an overcrowding on the market and so the risk to run into works that after all would not deserve to be released. but at the same time it's beautiful to have a vast choice of album to listen, isn't it?

What do you think is the best way to fight music privacy?

Do you refer to copy or similar things? I believe that it's a problem from which we won't come out easily.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

To be well with myself and always respect everybody.

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

My typical day starts at 8:30. I begin to play till lunch, then I take up again till dinner, then I go on till when I don't collapse! Music, Music and only Music!!!

What do you like to spent your time with besides music?

If I don't play, I listen to the music.. sincerely I don't know anything else out of the music.

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

To succeed in intoxicating the barman who gives us to drink.

You're heading off to live on a desert island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system.which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max 3 of each)

Dream Theater's "Images and Words", Labyrinth's "Freeman", Symphony X's "V" and the complete Simpsons collection!!!

What is your favourite joke?

I would not seem monotonous or repetitive but there is nothing out of the music that attracts me.

Can you tell about any future plans for you and your band?

I'm working with my band to finish the our second album. We should record in December, I hope for the best. Finished the recording sessions I will endeavour for the layout of my new songs. I have contacted some big name that will cooperate with me: the keyboarder Andrea De Paoli (Labyrinth) and Tony Liotta (Sting, Tina Turner, Chick Corea.) on the drums.

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

I hope that you will have the opportunity to listen my works and above all to appreciate them. To have a chat with you has been a pleasure, I promise you that soon you will hear of me again.

I'm still smiling. Tina's player NEVER won't give you a fuck to an unknown mofo like you.
Contact a doctor, you need it.
