"Demented Honour" is the debut album of singer and guitarist
Erol Sora, who earlier played guitar with John Lawton (ex. Uriah Heep/Lucifer's Friend)
The music on "Demented Honour" is in-your-face blues rock based around the songs and melodies. The album debuts Erol on vocals and the album certainly has a lot to offer for fans of classic guitar based Hard Rock.
The above ingredients are perfected on
Guilty, which is driven by a powerful riff. Erol's vocals have a special emotion and tone. Sora's vocals sound great, but also made me curious for more variation to get an impression of his range.
Album highlight is
Highway to Nowhere. The song has an irresistible vibe and a chorus that makes it impossible to sit still. The tight rhythm guitar provides
Highway to Nowhere with a swaggering beat.
Piece of Paper is a cool ballad with a Dire Straits/Thin Lizzy alike guitar piece. The ballad holds emotion and a nice twangy guitar. The song has a modern touch compared to traditional blues rock.
Rain deviates a bit. The sound is clear as a bell on the acoustic guitar. The beautiful sounding acoustic does a solo piece, which is followed by Sora blasting out an electric solo scourged in the characteristic warm bluesy Les Paul tone.
Broken Dreams is a standard song, but the long guitar solo saves the track. Overall Sora isn't a show off on the six-string. Even though he is a great guitarist the main focus is still on the songs, which probably is the main factor why this album is successful
"Demented Honour" is a great album for fans of classic Bluesy hard rock. It very obvious that Erol is motivated since the record is permeated by labor of love and inspired playing.
Sora is a musical craftsman and he does his job well. He has worked on the lyrics more than the average band and sometimes he spices the songs with 2 different choruses.
Put
Erol Sora on the upcoming
Deep Purple European tour as a special guest.
