As the name indicates Tramp's
White Lion plays
White Lion songs.
Singer and founder
Mike Tramp has put a new band together of fresh talent from every corner of the world with the mission of playing
White Lion songs true to the sound of the records.
This is a live recording recorded during the band's tour with Enuff Z'Nuff in February and March 2005.
Mike Tramp is definitely a man that stands by his words of brining the authentic
White Lion sound to the masses.
Hungry is performed note for note with impressive playing by Australian guitarist Jamie Law. Tramps' vocals still holds that special tone and sounds strong
Tramp's
White Lion also performs a very authentic version of
Lonely nights. Henning Wanner starts by playing the melody line on keyboard while Jamie Law handles all fills, but still manages to lay down a fantastic rhythm guitar.
A few songs are performed a bit different from the album versions. Among them is
Love don't come easy and the monster hits off "Pride".
Wait has a different intro without the acoustic guitar and
When the Chrildren Cry sounds better stripped down with only Mike and Vito's acoustic guitar. The band arrangement on
When the Chrildren Cry is a bit too bombastic
Broken heart and
Fight to survive goes all the way back to the beginning of
White Lion.
Broken Heart is performed in the "Mane Attraction" version.
Fight to survive sounds refreshing and it is among album highlights. The vocals aren't as high as the original album versions, but that only suits the songs.
Back in the day
White Lion mostly performed
Cry for freedom by
Mike Tramp and the touring keyboard player only. Tramp's
White Lion do a full band version. They don't fully capture the emotion of the album version, but I wonder if the original
White Lion managed to that. Another album version that is impossible to top is
Little fighter, but Tramp's
White Lion plays a decent competent version
The set mainly consist of
White Lion classic but there is room for one surprise. The bluesy
Itīs over is a very welcomed addition to the live set, since it's among yours truly personal favorites. The backing vocals and keys make the sound full.
Lady of the Valley is perfectly performed by the international band.
Tramp's
White Lion plays the songs in the way they sound on record - the most distinctive difference is the use of keyboards. Henning Wanner's keyboards are dominant on this show but it's in a good way. Wanner often plays the melody lines and adds up for Jamie Law to copy Vito Bratta, which isn't the most thankful job in the world. All respect to Jamie Law because he does a splendid job
The sound is really good and full for a club concert. Michael Wagener, who produced
White Lion's "Pride" and "Big Game", has mixed the album and brings another good reference back to the original
White Lion.
"Rocking across the USA" is a CD that really manages to create a buzz about the band and the music of
White Lion. Everyone who gets the chance should go see Tramp's
White Lion on their up-coming European in 2006.
To the skeptics; Stop whining about this isn't the original band and
White Lion not getting back together.......because that is never gonna happen. As stated in the new biography about
Mike Tramp regarding a possible
White Lion reunion.
Tramp went to see Vito for the first time since the break up about a possible reunion tour "Vito was at age 37 still living at home with he parents and rarely touched a guitar".
It's a loss for the music biz that such a talented player as Vito Bratta isn't playing anymore. Personally he was among my favorite guitarists, but now we have Tramp's
White Lion with the characteristic strong voice of
White Lion and a new guitar ace
Overall Tramp's
White Lion's performance is approved with distinction. The band rocks and is not something you'd be content with. The songs are still fucking strong and amazing
