Band profile
 What is your name and your current position in the band?
Jasun: My name is Jasun Tipton and I do a big portion of writing the music and play all the guitars in Zero Hour.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
Jasun: Troy, Mikey and myself have been together for over 12 years. Our goal was to create very heavy, dynamic music using odd time signatures, tempo changes, lush clean tone passages with never-ending formats. A few year years later our first singer Erik joined the group and we released "Metamorphosis" and "The Towers of Avarice" off Sensory Record Worldwide. Our new release "A Fragile Mind" has a new singer and the CD has been receiving amazing reviews and we're very excited to have another CD out on Sensory Records.
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
Jasun: I think everyone goes through what do we have to do to break into the industry. We always had a feeling we would get picked up but you do have your moments wondering if this is ever going to be National opposed to local.
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
Jasun: The CD is called "A Fragile Mind" and it's an great listen start to finish. The music will always keep your attention to the overall sound. The music is very Heavy with many exotic technical patterns but also have very beautiful lush clean passages to be a very dynamic CD. Definitely check Zero Hour's "A Fragile Mind" out.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
Jasun: I say the band is thinking man's cinematic Metal. It does have a Progressive Metal Vibe and we've always wanted to play this style. It's just in our blood and you can tell Zero Hour has it's own sound.
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
Jasun: Seeing and hearing the finished product of our first signed release "The Towers of Avarice". The other one would be playing Progpower Europe and after the 3rd song everyone one chanted USA-USA-USA. That's a moment you live for and look forward to more moments like that.
How is the writing process in the band?
Jasun: Troy, Mikey and I will come into the studio and Troy and I will bring in a riff. From that point we write it all together, the sound is very organic and everyone get their own feel to the song. Once the tune grows into shape and Troy, Mikey and I agree the song is finished, we then send it to our singer to start writing lyrics and melodies.
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
Jasun: I always knew I wanted to do music. My parents would play all kinds of music from Elvis, The Beatles, Pat Metheny and I couldn't stop listening to it and acting it out. Music was always number one.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
Jasun: My dad and my brother Troy (Who plays bass in the band). Just very close with them and have so much respect for them.
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
Jasun: No because you really do learn from everything and it makes you stronger. Plus it pushes further and without you ups and downs you wouldn't care as much.
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
Jasun: No I pretty much agree with what they've said in the past. The listeners in our genre really dive into the music and feel it.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
Jasun: It's all equally important musically and lyrically.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
Jasun: It's getting better and you're seeing people in the States being more into checking out the underground which is great. It can always be better but people are more open to the underground scene these days. Europe is still better in regard to that question.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
Jasun: I have no clue. I'm not opposed to having listeners hearing a couple songs to make up their mind in order to buy the CD but to have everything that an artist works so hard to do and give nothing to the artist is a bad thing all the way around.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Jasun: The only thing I have is just be as good of person as you can be because I do believe in karma.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
Jasun: Giving guitar lessons, working out, band rehearsing and if not playing shows or touring, checking out acts live that I enjoy.
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
Jasun: I enjoy working out, hanging out with my friends and family. Just enjoying life.
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
Jasun: Not knowing where our first singer was the whole night and finally finding him in the streets of Amsterdam the next morning. Now that's pretty crazy (Jasun laughs)
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)
WOW, now that's a tough and only only three. Meshuggah Chaosphere, Dillinger Escape Plan Calculating infinity and Pat Metheny Travels.
What is your favourite joke?
Jasun: I have too many and can't just say one. I love telling jokes with my friends.
Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?
Jasun: The future is stronger than ever for the band. We will have another CD in 2006 and the material is our best yet. We are very excited to start playing live again in 2006.
