Straight out of the Swedish gutter
CrashDļet takes the listener by surprise with their Sleazy Hard Rock.
CrashDļet is inspired by the 80's Glam/Sleaze scene and influenced by pioneer bands like Ratt and Mötley Crüe.
Spelling
Tikket with 2 k's and other words spelled like "Knokk" and "Chainz" underlines the Glam influences of the band. Furthermore
CrashDļet also uses umlauts like Mötley Crüe.
What
CrashDļet brings to the table is youthful energy and a kick ass attitude that might be totally outdated but somehow is refreshing in the year 2005. The 80's were about fun and you certainly have a good time during the playing time of "Rest in Sleaze".
Knokk 'Em Down strongly opens the album with in-your-face vocals, a powerful chorus and irresistible chord changes that make the song bounce.
CrashDļet's youthful energy is also canalized via the lyrics. Both released as singles;
Riot in Everyone and
Breakin' the Chainz deal with the topic of being young and live by your own rules. Both songs have rebellious "Youth gone wild" lyrics.
"Rest in Sleaze" is packed with great songs. A standout is the aforementioned
Riot in Everyone, where Dave Lepard's high pitched vocals really breathe extra energy into the song. Another favorite is
Tikket, which has a kick ass edge to it.
Queen Obscene/69 Shots is a typical cocky glam rock song build on a great riff.
Needle In Your Eye is also constructed on a great riff.
On the last 2 songs the quality is a bit lowered.
Straight Outta Hell and
Back On Trakk closes an otherwise very strong album, which has plenty of memorable sleaze songs.
Album highlight is
Breakin' the Chainz. The song has everything to become the anthem of today's sleaze/glam rockers.
Another album highlight is the new single
It's a Miracle, which is
a wise choice since it has one of those choruses that forever are committed to memory. The song definitely ranks among the best songs of 2005.
The production puts Lepard's voice in focus. Sometimes the production sounds a bit thin, but you learn to love it and with danger of contradiction, the production actually fits the music - this is meant in a good way.
CrashDļet isn't afraid to use pompous produced backing vocals. Especially the harmonies and backing vocals to the 2 last songs have a grandiose
Def Leppard touch to it.
Singer Dave Lepard's vocals are the trademark of the band. The song writing is good with respect to the proud 80's tradition. The only noticeable "theft" is the riff from
Out Of Line, which sounds similar to
Ten second to Love written by the aforementioned kings Mötley Crüe.
I have been listening to this record for 6 weeks straight and it's still fantastic...that really says it all about the quality of this band.
CrashDļet is on the way to super star status. Support a new and young band that plays unpretentious 80's Glam/Sleaze and do it well.
