What is your name and your current position in the band?
I'm Francesco Fareri and I play guitar and keyboards.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
I decided to start my own musical project in 1996 but my first real album was released in 2001. Actually I've some CDs and instructional materials out. I've alwyas worked really hard to make my name out and the best thing that happened in all these years was when my greatest influence Vitalij Kuprij asked me a guest solo for his fourth album! It was a great time and an amazing experience for me! The Vitalij played on my album too!
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
When I started to record my material I immediately sent them to magazines for reviews... things weren't always good and the first album was a self released but they were selling great and I was thinking to continue that way until I had a deal with Lion Music, they are real professionals and I'm so happy to be part of their group!
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
My latest album is called Forbidden Dimension and it is completely different from all the other albums, first thing it isn't a guitar album only but the keyboards (Bob Katsionis and Vitalij Kuprij played a lot of stuff there!!!) are at the same level of my main instrument and the same thing for drums and bass, second thing the songs are not structured as all the other songs with intro, main theme, chorus, solo and so on but all the songs are a bit different, third thing this album is the complete mirror of myself and you can really discover my personality listening to my music, I'm working on a new album that will be also more complete than this one but the work is still in process.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
I think I play metal with shred and progressive influence. I like also other kind of music but when it is time to play or write my material this is the music I use to show myself.
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
When I play live, it is one of the best moments to see people!
How is the writing process in the band?
I usually start from keyboards pattern or drums rhythm and then I start to work on rhythm guitar and the last thing solos.
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
I'm not a musician! I mean to play guitar is not my work, I work in office as a programmer.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
First of all Mr. Vitalij Kuprij!!! I love also music from Jason Becker, Greg Howe, Marty Friedman, Bob Katsionis, George Bellas, Shawn Lane, Chopin and many more!
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
No, because if I make errors it helps for experience and the next time it will be better for sure! I've lost a lot of money in the past but music is my passion and love so 'it doesn't matter'!
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
I love all my stuff from my 2 albums from the first note to the last one!
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
My music is instrumental.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
I don't think that there will be more space for instrumental players like me, but the important thing is in my opinion to continue to work on own ideas without thinking about business.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
To have a low cost of a CD starting from labels, then distributors and then the shops... a CD should cost 10 euros to be bought by a lot of people, (in my opinion for sure!)
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Music is everywhere, you need only to touch it in every moment and things will be better.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
I wake up at 7:00 am, at 8:00am I go out with my dog Paola (the best thing of my life!) and then I go to office from 9:30am to 6:30pm. I come back home at 7:30pm, I go out with my dog again, then I have a dinner, I play guitar for 20/30 minutes.
This is my week excluding saturday and sunday for sure!!! :)
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
For sure with my beautiful dog!!!
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
-

What is your favourite joke?
