Some bands play to an aggressive mannerism and some just to play their musical mantra and showcase chops, where there is not much middle ground between the two that can be done in good fashion. But for Boomerang, they find the poise between the two, offering a rougher edge to their riff driven structure within the dark circle that the music revolves around.
Taking the thrash aggression of mid-period Corrosion of Conformity, the gloominess of Sabbath, and the occasional technical grandeur of Savatage, The record begins with the pulsating riffs of "
Amplify" which leads to a more chorus-laden crunch, which then takes a melodic turn with the consistent double bass of "
The Hand that Signed the Paper" and "
Mind Odyssey," detouring to atmospheric persistence with the subdued sub-ballad of "
Betwixt the Temples," whereas,
Balance of Hate, does provide, well, a "balance" for differentiated tunes.
It's the guitars that tend to shine; the axe attack is defined in technical manner, with progressions and arpeggios/soloing placed within a finite manner throughout the disc. The vocals sound a little rough, the harmonies could have been executed a little better. In the end, I have to admit that these are about to pull it off, but, it's gonna' take some growth, but you can see that there is definably potential with these guys. So, we will look forward to the next release.
