Their music could be placed somewhere between melodic rock and stoner metal, hence their knack for catchy melodies and dark Sabbath/Fu Manchu grinding riff driven material. For Canada's Faces of Black, the musical mantra for quick tempos and thick crunch are brought to the table with vocalist/bassist Christine Apro's punk prowess attitude, hence, the trio offers more than just THC tinged snail racing tempos.
Cuts such as
"Thorn in my Side," "Panic and Alienation," and
"Bashed" offer the straightforward churning rhythmic punch filled with aggressive energy. The record's rougher "middle finger" attitude is expanded with tracks such as
"Glutton" and
"Log Jam" with their aggressive demeanor and hostile textured chops.
Their music is nowhere near the sound of nu-metal or grunge, being that it is infused with the energetic punk rock vibe at times. You have to imagine while listening to this that their shows are loud and maybe an occasional mosh pit might ramble through the audience. In the end, Faces of black are off to a good start and show promise, so it won't be surprising if this Victoria, BC band sets a different example for music that comes from the northwest.
