Peter Blast is an old dog in the Rock 'N' Roll game. From 1977 to 1982
Peter Blast fronted the group "Degeneration", which was kinda the American counterpart to Sex Pistols.
My personal introduction to
Peter Blast (at the time named
Peter Blastiosso) was via the band Junebug - a group consisting of various musicians from bands like Bad Finger, Off Broadway and D'Molls. Junebug's album was produced and co-written by Chip Z'Nuff.
The collaboration Chip Z'Nuff/
Peter Blast strikes again on the track
Little Sister of Mercy from Blast's latest solo release "Explode"
"Explode" is the latest mark in
Peter Blast's solo career. "Explode" focuses on a broad spectrum of punk, glam and mostly traditional Rock 'N' Roll with melody. Definitely a combination that never grows old.
"Explode" is a diverse record based in traditional Rock 'n' Roll. The album spans through a bluesy ballad;
It's A Cruel Cruel World, pure rock in
AS Sharp as a Knife, Swaggering rock on the title track
, mellow acoustic guitar and violin on
Just for You Too and party "crank It up" rock in
We're The Hellraisers
Peter Blast's trademark is his characteristic voice, which takes time to get used to. Blast's vocals are light but hold a special tone, which emphasize lots of attitude and edge. His vocals grow on you and Blast's voice fits his version of The Rolling Stones'
Paint it Black, where the drums really lay a solid foundation.
Among album highlights is the melodic rocker
Orange Sunshine, which has some tasty blues guitar added. Strangely the track I totally fell for was
The Last Word.
The Last Word is a ballad-like song where the emotion really attracts and maintains the listener glued to the speakers. The change between acoustic guitar and cool electric leads makes it very atmospheric. Peter's vocals also do the mellower songs most justice.
"Explode" is a pure traditional Rock record. The production is really good and wraps up this release in the right "packing". Peter has done lead vocals, a lot of back-up vocals and he also played electric and acoustic guitars on the CD.
