Events and Reports - Iron Fire - Live at The Rock, Copenhagen - February 10th 2005
Written by Nina

After a period without too many gigs and with changes in the line up, the young Power/Heavy Metal heroes in Iron Fire was been given the task of supporting Martie Peters Group at Copenhagen's Metal venue, The Rock.

That this was a week-day gig did show, not many people were present, but the usual loyal guys in Iron Fire T-shirts and with exciting looks in their eyes were ready to support the great live act, curious to see what the new guys in the band could do, and listen to some of the new material, as this was an introduction gig for those two things.

Iron Fire went on stage with the cool theme from the Terminator 2 movie, and right after, broke into a new song called We Shall Rise. It sounded promising, and the band seemed at top of their game, doing what they do best.
The next tune Metal Messiah seems an exciting piece of music, very traditional sounding and with a fine drive!
Lead guitarist Mads Andersen seemed creative and enthusiastic, and carried out both verses and solos in a great way, except for a few small mistakes, and singer Martin Steene did an impressive job screaming and shouting with lots of power and talent! This guy has clearly improved a lot during the almost 10 years of Iron Fire's existence, and today he is one of the most interesting Danish singers!

That the audience were a bit resistant and didn't really freak out, didn't stop the band from giving all they had, trying to get the party started. Only new bass player Martin Lund (ex-Morbid Vision) was very motionless and sometimes almost looked like he was asleep. Maybe he was just very concentrated, but show-wise he didn't leave an exciting impression, though nothing seemed wrong with his musical abilities.

The new line up consists of the before mentioned bass player, as well as new drummer Jens B. from the band Sons Of Tomorrow, and both guys seemed to fit in well with the Iron Fire concept, and did a fine job. Furthermore they had hired a guitarist for this show only, a huge advantage to the times they played with only one guitarist.

The show consisted of mostly new songs, with only three songs I knew, Prince Of Agony from the slightly boring On The Edge album, the excellent Power from their latest demo, and of course their own little classic Thunderstorm from the debut album of the same name.

I know the band was there to present the new material, but personally I would have liked at least every second song to be something I knew. I find it hard to stay concentrated for three unknown songs in a row, and I think this is part of the reason, the audience weren't as much into the show as usual.

Well, at least from what I could hear the new stuff sounded really strong, especially the hard We Shall Rise and the rather catchy Stand As King, so I'll be looking forward to the new album, which will be out "soon", as Martin Steene announced. All songs seemed to possess the Iron Fire feeling, I have come to love so much, a very good mixture of old school Heavy Metal and more modern Power Metal, guitar based and heavy, but still memorable and melodic.

The usual closing song, and crowdpleaser Thunderstorm marked the end of another great night in the company of my favorite Danish band. I hope it won't be too long till the next time!

Man these guys need to get a good label again and release some more material. They've got "Magistral" syndrome where they play killer tunes live yet I have no idea what they are cos I dont have the demos they're on or they simply havent been recorded yet.

Hey Ben. I agree totally and ordered that Magistral cd after reading your review at your site. I thought these guys broke up? Maybe you can dig a little more on the progress of these guys again.
I think Magistral sent me the new Demo even though it is not the one linked at the site through paypal.
See you at metalreviews (EpicMetalFan30) and nice to bump into you here.
Are you going to review the Nocturnal Rites- Lost in Time release?
