Cinderella - Live from the Gypsy Road
Cinderella is definitely one of my favorite bands. I have been hungering for new material since Cinderella's last album "Still Climbing", which goes all the way back to 1994. The last couple of years Cinderella has been touring, but still with a live set limited to their first 3 studio releases neglecting "Still Climbing". "Live from Gypsy Road" is the band captured on stage in 1998 at L.A's "Key Club". The CD has earlier been released under the moniker "Live at the Key Club" - this is the same show only in a re-packaged version available for European fans.

What I love about Cinderella's albums was the growing depth in their songwriting. From classic Hard Rock on their debut to experimenting with diverse genres on the fantastic "Long Cold Winter". The record buyers awarded this progress and both albums achieved triple platinum.

"Heartbreak Station" was a huge step in the same direction of the acoustic songs on "Long Cold Winter", but still it achieved double platinum being a very "back to the roots" rock album. Long forgotten was the hair metal associated with the band.

The concert is amazing. It's one night completely live with no overdubs and it sounds that way. The band sounds really good and tight. They play all their classic songs. Even though they almost neglect "Still Climbing", they have put together a perfect setlist. The only song featured on "Still Climbing" is Hot and Bothered, which Cinderella actually recorded before the album for the Wayne's World Soundtrack. The band plays a really cool medley as intro to Hot and Bothered consisting of the riffs to Gypsy Road and Somebody Save Me, where after they kick directly into Hot and Bothered.

Tom Keifer's voice sounds amazing in a Live setting and Tom really pulls it off on the acoustic and the piano as well. The band sounds as a unit even though Keifer often takes the spotlight. Fred Coury also gets to do a drum solo.

This album captures the live magic of the band - these guys can really play. It displays the diversity of the band and includes all the hits packed in a raw and honest recording. The show makes me wish I was there rocking out with the boys.
