Bleed is the long awaited sign of life from former MSG vocalist
Robin McAuley. Since McAuley Schenker Group last studio album "MSG"
Robin McAuley only released one solo album in the 12 year time span.
I was expecting diamond cut Hard Rock/AOR like MSG and I hoped for a new
Anytime since the MSG song ranks among my all time favorite ballads...but I soon got wiser.
What the hell happened to
Robin McAuley?
Bleed certainly isn't radio friendly AOR/Hard Rock, but the EP displays an aggressive band playing heavy metal with modern effects.
At first I didn't know how to react when I first heard album opener
Falling Down. I literally fell down my easy chair. It's a kick ass song with "skew" rhythms and after a few listens the chorus actually becomes very melodic. McAuley's voice sounds fantastic and he still has that smooth melodic edge to his singing, which makes
Bleed digestive to me.
The album highlight
Thrown it All Way has juicy guitars and a very emotional chord progression. The song really has potential to become a Metal classic. McAuley's voice still makes me soft - even on the very angry
Tail of the Gun, where the aggressive guitar approach smoothly is reconciled into a great melody by
Robin McAuley.
We Breathe ends the album on a very positive note and it's another highlight. The verse oozes emotion and
We Breathe is more in the Hard Rock vein with a very cool guitar solo.
Bleed's debut EP runs 14 minutes and it is actually quite good with
Thrown it all Away and
We Breathe as super tracks. I do prefer McAuley's voice used in Hard Rock bands but for now it's a great pleasure to hear
Robin McAuley back in the game.
