Being introduced to these guys last year with a four-song demo made other prog metal fans and I anticipate the full release. Well it has been a year and finally, according to the band (
see interview), which features members of
Takara and Equinox, the full album is headed our way.
Sounding like
Images and Words era
Dream Theater and late period conceptual Fates Warning,
Vox Tempus brings prog metal back to basics, without all of the symphonic connotations and without going too far-fetched into neo classical extremes, keeping the sound more down to earth.
On this, three cuts represent
Vox Tempus' musical endeavors, production, and chops; the first
"For Every Life," a typical prog metal cut, done in their own fashion of course; the second, the dark
"Revelations", a mid tempo song that takes a more emotional stance; and a mood driven cut titled
"What About," that brings the syncopated grooves to the jam session found with this heavy cut.
Overall, the band shows their strong ability as a band, with all the musicianship being intact. Vocally, Dan Reed sound like Dennis DeYoung, perfect to front the virtuoso musicianship of the band, and who better to provide the percussive skills, none other than Gregg Bissonette. In the end, after hearing them a year ago, and hearing them again now a year later, only leads to more anticipation from this scribe.
