Wednesday, June 9, 2004 - New Neal Morse album | Neal Morse is in the studio this week with drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and bassist Randy George (Ajalon, Neal Morse Band) to record the follow up to last years best selling progressive masterpiece "Testimony".
The sessions with Mike Portnoy and Randy George are running from June 6th to June 13th. Neal decided on a collaborative way to work the new album by having Randy and Mike flush out the arrangements with him as they go along.
So we can expect something akin to a Transatlantic style effort while not sounding wholly like those albums from the simple fact that different people are involved in it's making. Go to www.nealmorse.com for personal studio updates from Neal and the other guys as they go each day. Those updates can be found in the "general discussion" area of the messageboard.
Also Neal discusses the new album a bit in the web page Diary section. The album is untitled as of yet and a release date has not been set. So far a song called "Author of Confusion" has been spoken of but no others as yet have been named. Joining Neal on the console will be good friend and engineer Jerry Guidroz who helped Neal with the production and recording of "Testimony".
In other related Neal news he is planning on releasing a song based pop album that he had written two years ago. Not sure what style or category to throw the album in, Neal has re-recorded the drums and added some background choir style vocals to the songs. Definitely recognizable as Neal songs but this is not a progressive rock album like "Testimony" or Transatlantic. No release date has been set for this release and the album has been turned over to Jerry Guidroz' able hands to see the light of day.
Check out the upcoming DVD for the "Testimony" tour featuring an 8 member super group with about 189 minutes of live footage and 66 minutes of tour documentary. Scheduled to release in Europe on June 28th, 2004 and North America on July 13th, 2004.
Should be a stellar year for Progressive Rock's reigning king of the muse! The most accurate and reliable news can be found at www.nealmorse.com. See ya there! |
