Metallica - Death Magnetic
Monday, September 22, 2008
I was expecting this album to as bad or worse the St. Anger. Thankfully I was proven wrong.

While it is definitely not as good as some of their early albums it does show a step in the right direction.

The 6.5 score is a bit low, I would rate it about a 7.5. If they manage to improve on this offering you will be looking at some very solid albums in their future.

Firewind - The Premonition

Gus G. has a habit of being in 'predictable' bands. I would have preferred for him to stay in Mystic Prophecy and for Apollo to stick with Time Requiem.

Conception - Flow

All of Conception's albums could be considered metal classics. I'm surprised you haven't heard this one already Steen.

Manigance - L´Ombre Et La Lumiere

I really liked D'un Autre Sang and found this release to be a lot weaker. Hopefully they can get some stronger and more varied songwriting to set themselves apart from the pack in the future.

This is my second favorite after Dreaming Neon Black.

Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon, Something Wicked Pt. 1

I disagree.

First, the story IS weak. It is a watered down version of everything we know and/or inferred from the original 'Something Wicked' trilogy. There are a lot of good concept albums out there with a nice story and strong progressive elements. This is not one of them.

Second, the noise tracks aren't a problem except for the fact that they go on for much too long. We get it Jon, there were machine guns and screaming, you can stop at 20 seconds, not 2 minutes.

Third, when compared to their back catalog this album has a tremendous amount of recycled material. Just of the top of my head I know that Jon reused at least 2 riffs from the original trilogy, 1 vocal melody from the trilogy, and a variant of the vocal melody from 'Dracula' at about 20-30bps slower.

Lastly, if you plan to personally insult someone on the internets you should at least be semi-literate.

A very disappointing release. It seriously lacks the aggressiveness of old and the interludes and 'noise tracks' really kill it.

A few highlights here and there; the EP is far better than the album!

Orphaned Land - Mabool: The story of the Three Sons of Seven

Just checked out the clips on iTunes. Sounds amazing! I will definitely buy this when I get paid.
