Mr Mister - Pull Saturday, December 4, 2010 god bless you my son.
or not.
either way:
MRMR was never a critics' favorite, which you already know if as you say in your bio you cut your teeth on melodic rock in the 80s; so it was with great and honest pleasure i read your review of PULL.
when you wrote:
"Lyrically, the songs range from the intimate to the global. Personal comments on life and liberty, to wider subjects, reflectiong the turbulent times and political upheaval of the late eighties."
i appreciated your elegant and economical appraisal of the words and subject matter we chose, but i was also left to assume (since you made no mention, while mentioning everyone else involved in the creation of the record) that you're unaware that the band had a lyricist -- me, JOHN LANG -- who co-wrote almost every one of the songs on both the PAGES and MRMR records, including those to whom we no longer refer and of whom we will no longer speak now that PULL is out and surpassed them in every way: BROKEN WINGS and KYRIE. i imagine rich will really appreciate reading that, too, as he the one who has sung those songs at least a million times, whenever asked to or demanded of (see most recently: as the bass player in ringo starr's all starr band, summer 2010).
great way to finish the review, by the way.
anyway, thank you again, brian. your thoughtful voice on the page did for me what so little does these days, that is, reminds me that i'm not alone in the universe, and indeed conversation, opinion well rendered, and communication without rancor are awesome, awesome things.
