Band page - Metal Poet
Latest news
Thursday, January 5, 2006 - New website fuses heavy metal and poetry | Press release from www.metalpoet.com:
Heavy metal and poetry don't mix, right? Think again.
Play a word association game, and chances are you won't be putting the term "heavy metal" alongside words like "poem" or "poetry". However, one Australian fan of the extreme rock genre has launched a poetry website as a tribute to the lyrical force of metal bands past and present.
Metalpoet.com has the look and feel of a gothic, brooding metal band. Explore the site, though, and you soon realise that this is more about poetry and creative writing inspired by bands such as Megadeth, Nevermore and Katatonia, among many other metal groups.
To date, the Metal Poet has released three "albums": "Hint of Humanity", "World Aborted" and "World of Grey". These albums are creative compilations of poetry that evoke the rhythmic lyrics of modern heavy metal. Read these pieces out loud and you can almost feel the spirit and power of the absent instruments lift the words to another level. In fact, that is the stated theme of the website:
metal without music
Michael Terrax is the unseen driving force behind Metal Poet, who says that "the true potential of Metal Poet lies not only in sharing my original work, but in the opportunity to bring like-minded fans together in a creative, metal-inspired environment". Visitors to Metalpoet.com will soon be able to participate in live constructions of creative pieces, collaborating with fellow worldwide metal fans.
Poetry never sounded so good. · Discuss this news further (0) |
