Other information Band profile
What is your name and your current position in the band?
My name is Philip Bardowell. I am the lead vocalist and one of the songwriters.
Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?
Actually, I am a solo artist. Serafino at Frontiers Records put the deal together. Formerly, I was the lead singer in Unruly Child and Magdalen.
Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?
Yes, of course.
What is your latest album and why should people buy it?
My latest album is called "In The Cut" and was released on Frontiers Records. People should buy it because the songs are strong-memorable hooks and melodies- and the album sounds great.
How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?
The album is AOR-very melodic rock in the vein of Foreigner or Journey. I've recorded many styles of music during the course of my career.
Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?
Since I'm not in a band, there were none!
How is the writing process in the band?
We had outside writers in addition to myself.
What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?
I started piano at age 5, guitar at age 12 and was in my first band by then as well! I have a degree in Psychology, but music is my love and my passion.
Do you have any idols? If yes, who?
I love the Beatles, Sting, Stevie Wonder and so many more. I'd say that my number one idol is Paul McCartney.
Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?
No.
Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?
Yes.
How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?
I think lyrics are extremely important. They are just as important as the script for a movie. However, although the soundtrack could very well stand alone, the script could not. Music is the most powerful tool.
What do you think about the state of the music industry today?
I think it is changing for the better after many dismal years. The mainstream is still quite pathetic in my opinion and has very little to do with music. It's all about marketing.
What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?
NOT the way Sony just tried to do it.
Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?
Love God, Love All.
Can you describe a typical day in your life?
Each day varies, but as a new parent, each day is exciting!
What do you like to spend your time with besides music?
My family and in fellowship with my Christian brothers and sisters.
What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?
The tour bus left without me!
You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)
The Beatles "Revolver"
Sting "Ten Summoner's Tales"
Seal "Prayer For The Dying"
What is your favourite joke?
I have many!
Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?
I am writing and preparing to record another album.
Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.
Thanks to all of you for listening to the music. Without you, none of us would have a reason to make music. God bless you all and Happy New Year!
