Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - Another day... another bit of Immortal news... | As reported by BW&BK
Despite reports to the contrary, heavyweight Norwegian black metallers Immortal did, in fact, mean to announce their demise when issuing a statement to Scream magazine, as previously reported here. In a stunning turn-around, the band's former label, Nuclear Blast, have now posted something of a retraction to their hastily worded denial and have posted the original message from the trio, on the Nuclear Blast website (www.nuclearblast.de).
"Well, sad news.. Although stated differently earlier as it seemed as if the band only wanted to take a long break, here's the 100% official news, directly from the band and management:
"After 13 years and 7 albums we have decided to stop working with Immortal due to personal reasons. A great thanks to all our fans worldwide who helped us making Immortal superb through all this time.
Abbath, Demonaz, Horgh"

Monday, July 21, 2003 - Immortal break up rumors not true! | As reported by BW&BK:
Reports of Immortal's demise were premature as it now seems the band will merely be on hiatus, and have not split up as previously reported.
According to the band's label Nuclear Blast (www.nuclearblast.de) the rumors of the band's split weren't 100% correct. In fact, Immortal will simply take a long break, as the musicians need to rest a while after 12 months of excessive touring.
In the meantime, both Abbath and Horgh will concentrate on their own projects. To start with, the debut album of Grimfist will probably be released in September on Candlelight Records, with Horgh on drums.
A message from the label reassures fans of Immortal, "So folks, don't worry, you know what 'Immortal' means."

Saturday, July 19, 2003 - Immortal Split up | As reported by BW&BK:
Unbelievable is the only word that characterizes this news out of Norway. As reported by Scream magazine, Norway's metal Bible, Immortal have broken up. The magazine's chief editor, Frode Øien reports having received the following e-mail from the band (translation):
"After 13 years and 7 albums we have decided to stop working with IMMORTAL due to personal reasons. A great thanks to all our fans worldwide who helped us making IMMORTAL superb through all this time. Abbath, Demonaz, Horgh."
The translation (from original Norwegian text) has been verified for BW&BK by an independent source, who adds, "That's very correct, unfortunately... And it says they split immediately, meaning no farewell gigs etc, only cancellations."
