Other information Band Profile
What is your name and your current position in the band? Alejandro Millán - singer, keyboard player, composer How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now? I like to think it's alternative/progressive rock. But that's always subject to perceptions. I'm always open to play different kinds of music, and as a matter of fact, I have played very different music with my previous bands. What is your latest album and why should people buy it? Light and life after dusk. You should buy it because it kicks ass! ;-) Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today? The story goes way back. I always wanted to record an album without any guitars on it. But it wasn't until 2006, that I decided to start writing music for it. Some months later I got a music production award to finance the album, so that gave me all the freedom I needed to start the production. From there, everything has been quite a journey hehe I'm very happy with this. Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry? Yes, definitely! There's always the fear that no one is going to like what you're doing. But in the end it's all about taking risks and doing what you like. Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band? The recording sessions were simply incredible. Everything went smooth and we had such a good time. These days were all about happiness and laughter. How is the writing process in the band? I actually like to change the process each time. Sometimes I think of a melody, other times I just start playing piano or guitar, other times I write some lyrics. It changes all the time. and that's exactly what I like about it. It's always a new experience! What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music? I started playing when I was 5 years old, so I can't remember what it is like not to have music in my life. But I can tell you, when I was 10, I quit my music lessons because I said I didn't want to play music any more. So little did I know. hehe A year later I started playing piano on my own and never stopped since then. Do you have any idols? If yes, who? Keith Emerson, Keith Jarrett, Lyle Mays, Freddy Mercury, Pat Metheny, and the list keep going. Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it? Fortunately, there haven't been any regrets so far. I'll work hard to keep it that way ;-) Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself? Not yet. How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums? VERY important. The lyrics are very personal for me. They all reflect a special moment or thought. What do you think about the state of the music industry today? It's changing. And it was about time! Now there are a lot more options for musicians that would have never had the chance to be listened. These are exciting times, if you ask me. What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy? Playing live a lot! It's what musicians like the most anyway! Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it? Not really. I guess I just do whatever I feel like without doing any harm to anyone. Can you describe a typical day in your life? Wake up, hit snooze, repeat many times. Exercise. Work some hours (I also work with computers). Have lunch. Play keyboard, record, do paper work for the band. Have dinner. Go out. What do you like to spend your time with besides music? Going out with friends What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour? Without any doubt, when I got deported from the UK hahaha I was doing a European tour with my previous band, Stream of Passion, and we had some gigs in England. We were told that we didn't need any kind of document for the Mexicans to play there, but it turned out we did need a working visa. so, they interrogated us for hours and finally decided that we couldn't get into the UK. We had to cancel the shows and had to go back home. Now I remember that with laughter but it wasn't that fun back then hehe You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each) Albums: Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life .for calmed times Megadeth - Countdown to extinction .for angry times Queen - Greatest Hits .for everyday (I know this is cheating, but anyway ;-) I would also take 3 random books that I haven't read. Same for movies. What is your favourite joke? Scaring people when they don't expect it (some people hate me for this hehe) Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band? I'll be touring here in Mexico for some months. In August I'm going to do a European tour and I'll start producing the new album after that.
