Favorite Bands
My Present top 10 bands (although keeps chaning from time to time)
10) Children Of Bodom - Everytime I die is my favourite COB song.
9) Morbid Angel - Excellent double bass drumming.
8) Black Sabbath - The pace of their songs isn't quite to my liking.
7) Judas Priest - The same opinion of what I have about Sabbath.
6) Slayer - I dont quite like their solos though but they have given enough monstrous riffs.
5) Death - Chuck Schuldiner is a genius!
4) Megadeth - Great technical compositions. Exceptionally fast and brilliant.
3) Dream Theater - Musical talents coming together. Each one is a prodigy in his own right... But then again the most complex music isnt always the best
2) Metallica - What can i say about them???? 'Old Metallica' that we all love... You had the situation in the 80's, where the Maiden fans loved the band whereas Metallica fans were fanatic to the point of being violent. They produced more masterpieces in their first 4 albums than what Iron Maiden did in their first 7 albums or maybe more. But what happened to them after that? I am just about semi-tolerant towards the Black Album. Load and Re-Load were crap. After St.Anger I assume that they would never go any worse from there. Thoroughly dissapointed unless they pull out something extraordinary in their next studio album.
But hey.. having said all this, the intensity never dies down while I am listeneing to an Old Metallica classic.
1) Iron Maiden - They are the kings of metal - without a question. they didnt selll out like Metallica. Steve Harris is the best musician ever for me. Bruce is simply the best. These guys are excellent song writers, great live performers.
Perhaps the only piece of criticism if any was the production of the their albums. Nicko is more skillful than Lars; but why do i feel that the sound of the drums on a Metallica song is more intense than on an Iron Maiden number?
Ohhh My God... how much I had craved for that moment, to watch them perform live in India - March 17th, Live in my city - Bangalore. Cannot forget that day man!
My favourite Live song - Phantom of the Opera in Rock Am Ring 2005.
My Favourite Studio song - Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Evil That Men Do, Phantom Of The Opera
What else should I say other than - Up The Irons!!!!!!
Favorite Albums
10) Slayer - Reign In Blood
Post Mortem and Raining blood together make a great duo for aggression.
9) Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Great album.. Somehow i dont get the power or the energy from this album compared to a Ride The Lightning. Hey... dont get me wrong, I am one of the biggest Maiden fans out there but still I am being objective enough to say nonetheless.
8) Death - The Sound Of Perseverance
Spirit Crusher and Voice of the soul are my all time favourites. Great aggressive music.
7) Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Contains my 2 favourite tracks... Holy Wars and Hangar 18. Mustaine and Marty play excellent solos but somehow they dont captivate me enough as a kirk hammet solo on fade to black, orion, etc.. Nevertheless a great album.
6) Cradle Of Filth - Nymphetamine
"Woa... where did this come from???", you may wonder. To make it more bizzare I havent heard all the other songs from this album. Well.. who cares? I just love this one song. Whatever you say about cradle of filth, every line of this song rocks the realms of heaven n hell. This is the best song written according to me.. I just feel something ultra special about each line.
5) Dream Theater - Images and Words
From Pull Me Under right to the end of the song, each song is a conteder for 'Technically Perfect' or 'Technically Difficult' compositions. (but not for the best song ever??? Yea.. I re-iterate that the most complex tracks cannot produce the best music). Somehow when I listen to their album i sit back and I am just amazed by their sheer talents. My friend once said "If they had produced all the other albums just half as good as Images and Words.. they would have given any Metal band a run for the top spot"
4) Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons
Just this one song man... unbelievably amazing. 23 mins of pure genius. Revelationz have reviewed this song brilliantly, so go ahead and read the review. People criticize James Labrie but no other voice can fit the overall melody of this song.
3) Iron Maiden - The Number Of the Beast
A notch below Metallica due to the production. Hallowed be thy name - although its my favourite Maiden number, it could have been so much more better. Children Of The Damned is my other favourite number from this album.
2) Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Hail Metallica. What an album.... Awesome production... Great Riffs... great bass.. I can still listen to Fade to Black and experience the goosebumps much the same way as my first listen to this song years ago.
1) Metallica - Master of Puppets
What should be said that hasnt been said before...
It cannot start any better than this.. Batteryyyyy.. Master Of Puppets isnt my fav song in album. Its a toss between Welcome Home and Orion. Orion is pure genius man. Wish Cliff lived longer... Wish Old Metallica had stayed. Had they produced just one more.. just one more album like Master Of Puppets, Iron Maiden would be dethroned from their present status as Kings of Metal.
Absolute Absolute Gold!
About me
Hi All,
Firstly, I love this website.. It simply rocks!
Of late i havent posted much, but I guess Steen and few of the others know me. Thats because I have fought with them for every low rating given on an Iron Maiden Album.. hehe
I am a software engineer, working in Infosys Technologies - Bangalore, India.
Not finding time to visit the website regularly coz the work is so hectic.. Waiting for steen to give me a job at Revelationz... lol
Hey... by the way..
My Dream came true..
I watched Iron Maiden live in my city - Bangalore.
Just 4 kms from my place.
Though the show started at 8 pm, I was there by 7 Am... yes... 7 Am..
I thought i was the biggest fan on earth, only till i reached the grounds and I saw 1000 people waiting at the strike of sunrise...
I couldnt believe my eyes... what the hell did i see.. Its 7 in the morning and I saw 1000 people waiting for the show..
thats the spirit of Iron Maiden in India.
Special thanks to Steen for sending me a copy of Enuf z Nuff CD!
