Through The Cracks Of Death is the fourth full length album from
Abscess - the California based gore/death metal band. There are two celebrities in the band, Chris Reifert and Danny Corales, they both come from the old cult death band Autopsy.
I consider this album as being old school death metal; it is fairly simple, straightforward and primitive in nature. Death metal today covers a lot of different music, but this is definitely the old gore-slash-kill kind. I don't like this album very much - it is too simple and the songs sound pretty much the same. There is however one thing I like about the album; there are a lot of good guitar leads.
The word that best describes Chris Reifert's vocals is "sick" - and remember, in death metal that is a good thing. The production of the album is not too good, and the sound seems a bit obscure.
The title number
Through The Cracks Of Death is a pretty good number - but again it is the guitars that makes it interesting. The highlight on the album is
An Asylum Below - it is very catchy, and all the instruments are played very well.
I would not recommend this album too much, but if you are an Autopsy or
Abscess fan you may want to check this album out. I rate the album 5.5/10 because it is OK, but nothing special.
