Events and Reports - Oliver Weers - Live at Royal Metal festival, April 8th 2009
Royal Metal festival was a two day festival. This was a subsidiary of the original festival entirely focusing on Danish bands. The organizers had invited one Danish Hard Rock name to perform at the festival. There were no show times announced so we arrived early only to conclude that the Danish Heavy Metal underground is alive and well. The organizers of the event deserve lots of credit for the incredible venue. The construction of the stage and bars was superb - a perfect setting for a rock festival. Oliver Weers was much anticipated. When he entered the stage the smile was 10-miles wide after an entire evening of neck-wrecking Heavy Metal. The band was top tuned and professionally fronted by Weers himself and the two guitarists Soren Andersen and Anders Bo. Mike Tramp/White Lion bassist Claus Langeskov (Longwood) stayed in the back leaving the spotlight to Oliver Weers, whose voice was powerful. Weers'stage presence was down to earth and several times he expressed his gratitude. Drummer Morten Hellborn was tight and the super tight band really got to me. The whole band oozed Rock N' Roll. Soren Andersen has composed all songs on Weers' debut album "Get Ready". The band aired most songs off that album with Calling Out For You, Crawling Back Again and especially Get Ready etched in mind. The power ballad Coming home was dedicated to the ladies and sounded like a smash hit. The band has only existed in a good year and they have earned their Rock N' Roll stripes with support acts for Whitesnake etc. Everyone seemed very comfortable on stage - all played and looked like they were born to be on stage. Since there was so many bands on the bill the concert was short, but it only proved that Oliver has got X-factor and backed by this amazing band Weers is the high hope for Danish Hard Rock. After Weers' performance the RevelationZ crew had to leave, but the festival continued with performances by Iron Fire and Artillery etc. |
